There is three main groups in my experience. First is the ones who just pushes this idea because it benefits them either financially or otherwise. Religious bias also falls into this first category such as interpreting the Earth as being flat because God spread out the 4 corners of the world or whatever. 2nd is the ones who believe more in their personal experiences than what evidence or others tells them AKA the ones who go outside, looks around and from their own experiences concludes that the Earth looks flat so it must be flat.

The 3rd is more interesting in my opinion. Its the "conspiracy theorists" AKA those who believe the Earth is flat specifically because the established knowledge says so, or more likely because the established authorities says so. For one reason or another they want to believe that the world is a grand conspiracy and that the people in power is trying to mislead the public. The harder someone tries to disprove them the more they believe that the proof is part of the conspiracy.

Interesting, but completely wacky people to be sure.

lots of people have been raised on conspiracy theories, its not really a surprise, the opinions of legitimate subject matter experts have been watered down and the internet helps propagate nonsense wrapped up as facts.
