Americans, how do you feel about proposed Senate bill that would limit president's power in imposing tariffs?

The Senate bill introduced Thursday by Sens. Charles Grassley (R-Iowa) and Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.) would limit a president’s power to impose tariffs, including allowing Congress to vote to end any tariff at any time. It would also require the president to notify Congress within 48 hours of imposing any duty and for Congress to explicitly approve any new tariffs within 60 days. The bill also would allow Congress to end any tariff at any time.

Nebraska Republican representative Don Bacon from a swing district, said he plans to introduce a companion bill to the bipartisan Senate legislation aimed at reclaiming Congress’ authority over tariffs, becoming the first House Republican to openly challenge the powers President Donald Trump is using to launch a massive global trade war.

Not an American. But everyone in the world has a stake in this issue. Congress is supposed to control this policy anyway. The Executive can only act in an emergency. There was no economic or security emergency. The economy was fine... good even. So Trumps reason for acting is false. This bill seems to be redundant. Its a bill about getting congress to do their jobs. Now it has no chance of passing the House in my opinion but at least the American voter will know who voted to continue this destructive policy.

In this case that would be good because Trump is kinda crazy with his tariffs but as a general rules I do not believe a president having no power is great because then he can't pass his laws. (like if they're good that would be frustrating if he could not pass them).

So you dont approve of the president in countries like Germany or Hungary, where he is inferior to the prime minister?

As a French it's so weird to me the concept of president having less power than the prime minister. In France the president have all power and the prime minister is his puppet (like the president chose the prime minister and decide of everything then give him orders for making laws pass). I'm ways more familiar with this and I think it's better (well of course the president need to be good if not it suck but if the president is good and cannot pass his laws it's very frustrating).

In Hungary / Germany do they elect the president or the prime minister? How does it work?

From what I remember in these countries the parliment elects presidents. So he has no legitymacy.

Which work does he do then? This is really different from how it work in France. I think it's normal he don't have much power if he get elected by parliament but what's the point of having one if it's actually the prime minister that does his work?
Make me think a bit like King Charles, like he's just there for the forms but don't actually do anything.
