I guess I’ve technically done it twice, three-ish (called 911 for my grandpa when he had a heart attack, but the paramedics and doctors probably deserve the lifesaving credit there, lmao).

I gave my friend the Heimlich Maneuver when he was choking on a piece of zucchini bread when we were kids. They aren’t lying, it comes shooting out when you dislodge the stuck food😂

And then I rescued my then-girlfriend’s little sister from drowning in a river. She almost took me down with her, lmao, but I fortunately got to shallow enough water to propel us towards shore by getting my feet in the sand. That one was pretty scary.

yes, but that is part of our job.
The hardest part is when you do everything humanly possible, all of your years on the job, all of you and your partners training, the best equipment money can buy, and you do not have the outcome that you wanted. It happens but you still feel drained afterwords. That is the hard part, you tend to second guess yourself, but it was just their time no matter what you did for them.
You clean up, because of my rank and I tend to be pretty good at it, I will inform the family, answer thier questions if the have any, explain what happens next, sometimes they really break down, so then you tend to them as best you can.
ou still have to get the rig back in service, restock, a report to do, and be ready for the next call.

    it depends what you mean...

I know how to perform resuscitation... I can stop bleeding and dress the wound... I can put in stitches... clear the respiratory tract... I'm a good swimmer after lifeguard training so I could save a drowning person...

I can call 911/112 (depends on the country) and pass meaningful information...

but I'm not confident with broken bones, poisoning/toxication and burns...

If it's something I can do, then I'd say yes. The one time my shoddy school first aid training came in handy was miraculous. They lived but I probably could've been better. Can't replace the first responders though lol

Even as dentist I have first aid schooling. Local anesthesia can cause in very rare cases heart problems or strokes due adrenaline used those injections. We are obliged to have a first aid set with defibrillator, infusions, respirator and basic injections.
I have a first aid kit in my car that is useful in case of an emergency. Such kit costs approx 2500 PLN (500 USD). With kits drivers are obliged in EU to own in cars it will be difficult to stop even a small arterial bleeding. You need at least one tourniquet, a big pack wound seal powder and lot of compression bandages.

this would of course... depend on the situation and what would actually take to save a life, it would be about the circumstances, and then yes... there would be a few in which I could do something about then I would definitely do something about it

and there would be others in which I know I would not be of help even if I really tried

for few, though... I would try even if I knew I would lose mine, or not succeed in saving them...

I've done it with 2 of my cousins once, but I kinda put them in the risky scenario to begin with.

I'll be arrogant and say I think my survival instincts are above average. There was a scenario with my mom once and I reacted to it without thinking. And I've also prevented myself from drowning in high tide in the ocean once

That depends on the circumstances. I do have some first aid skills, and I do have the motivation to take charge when it's required.

However - one guy I had to attend to once - died on the way to hospital.

    Some things can't be avoided.

Depends on the situation. If they had car troubles or trapped in a fire they are screwed. If its a someone picking up them I am probably your guy. I've been training in martial arts for quite some time now. If they are drowning Im also your man cause I am a good swimmer.

It depends on the situation, but I probably could.

You know, the phrase "saving a life" is really a misnomer. Since we all die, eventually, "saving a life" is really "delaying a death".

I believe I could as I was employed in fire/rescue, ambulance for many years, was an adjunct instruct for a community collage teaching EMS skills and CPR. I am now retired but still possess the knowledge of my many years of service.

I mean... I had a first aid course, I know how to put a person into recovery position and I guess I could put on a compression bandage. I would rather help by calling 110, though.

I would try. I’ve had basic first aid training and tend to jump into action in emergencies rather than freeze, so it’s possible that I could.

I have been on a suicide prevention line for five years. In that time I initiated three emergency response interventions. Lights and sirens. I hope I saved at least one life.

My first was a guy in a regional area. It took an hour for police to get there. Protocol is you stay on the call until they arrive, in case the police need to know of safety issues. You never forget that.

It would depend on what had caused the life to be in danger. Basic first aid maybe and the ability to keep them alive until real help could be found.
