What do you think about euthanasia? Should it be legal?

The controversy of medical euthanasia kind of falls under the same arguments of suicide, which is a massive gray area to contend with both legally and ethically. On the one hand, killing yourself is an inherently selfish act meant only to benefit you and no one else. On the other hand, if you know your date of death is incoming and want to avoid the worst of it, I can understand the sentiment behind why you want your life to end before that point.

As for the legality of it, that’s an extremely heavy task that goes up against not only ideas of freedom of expression but also potential murder/manslaughter charges. In the places where medical euthanasia is allowed, the patient has to go through a rigorous series of tests to prove they’re of totally sound mind and body and not making this decision rashly and then, with the help of a doctor, they set up a lethal injection system that the patient themselves is then responsible for injecting into their own body (or so I’ve heard, this could obviously be wrong and/or differ from other cases). It’s a very complicated process to do both in terms of having the doctor avoid the liability of killing a patient but allowing the patient to end their own life.

For humans or for animals? I think its a humane end for those who want it, if you mean humans. Most who have a life threatening illnesses just end up in massive medical debt and can go a long time suffering with their illness. Why not let them choose to end it in their own terms peacefully?

The only problem I see is insurance payouts. They may not want to pay out if suicide is what these patients want.

I'm a strong supporter of assisted suicide. To me, euthanasia is different. I'm in favor of that also, but it presents a lot more problems since someone else is choosing for you instead of choosing for yourself.

With living wills, you choose for yourself ahead of time. So the only thing others do is decide if the conditions have been met. I'm in favor of this also.

So I'm in favor of assisted suicide, living wills, and euthanasia all three. But with different levels of protection for each one.

It should absolutely not be legal.
Saying it's legal just gives the government a say in it which equates to control, and another revenue stream.
Secondly, we're all on this shitshow of a planet together... Nobody escapes that easy
