When do we ask for id for alcohol?

If I think the person is an adult, look old enough or legal of age 21, is it ok not to ask?

Practically never happens here in a restaurant, especially with parents around. And in a supermarket you would have to look like a ten year old to get asked for ID. I bought my first bottle of alcohol with 14.

Where? Not in most of the United States. Any business that provides alcohol is legally mandated to check ID of anyone who looks like they might be too young to drink. In Washington they check everyone's ID, even if they are obviously over 21.
