I promised multiple people through email we would have phone conversations when I returned from my vacation, but today, I just want to avoid social activity and all productive labours to rest and recover.

I just had to, laugh at this. My old boss did not want me to take the day off to witness the birth of my son. H esaid that when his kids were born he went to work and went to the hospital afterwards to see his kid. I could imagine what he would have said if I told him I wanted to take some personal time.
