I am. I think it's important for felons to have the chance to contribute to the communities they've hurt.

The thing about only paying a debt to society is that the most you can ever do is reach zero. And many times, the damage of a crime can't ever really be undone anyway. By allowing restorative justice, we give felons a chance to truly change through their actions.

Sure. Long as you're not a sex offender. You can't fix that. They will always be capable of ruining more lives, making victims afraid again. We need to kill them all. But everyone else? Rehabilitate em.

Nope. They need to die. No exceptions. Chemical castration doesn't stop them from doing it with objects or selling pictures or videos of victims. Life time prison means their victims are forced to pay for them to live.

@DrPepper12 if you are going to do that, you might as well just kill the person. Murder is a lot worse than sex crimes and we do not do this kind of mutilation to them.

I have never heard of anything so ridiculous. Maybe give the victim the opportunity to give the criminal a good beat down. That would bring some restorative justice for the victim.

@msc545 I have found that when somebody hurts you the only possible response is to hurt them back so quickly and violently that just the shock alone will make sure it never happens again.

Yes, if you are in imminent danger of harm. These people are locked up so that does not apply. The purpose of restorative Justice is in large part, to *prevent recidivism* and the data is that it does this a lot better and a lot longer than punishing people and for longer.

This has been tried for centuries... with little success. Punishment has been proven to provide better results.

Intro to criminal justice. Community college course. Most re-commit crimes after getting out. They don’t know what to do with themselves once on the outside. It’s being institutionalized

@blackeagle007 I worked as a prison doctor in two different max security prisons here in California. What you were told in your into course isn't true. What IS true is that inmates who have been in for a long time (~ 15 years +) often are disoriented and deliberately reoffend by committing minor crimes like obvious shoplifting to get back into an environment where don't feel disoriented and actually have work to do like firefighting. If they had reentry services (in CA they don't) this would not happen).

Restorative Justice is a way to prevent this and other problems, not continue them, as what we are doing now certainly does.
