Why is disability never a focus for politicians?

I find it ironic the leftists weaponized identity politics for their agenda, placing emphasis on race, sexual orientation, transgenderism, and all sorts of classes of people, yet you never really hear them advocate for one group of people that face fruequent prejudice: the DISABLED.

This not only includes physical handicap, but also mental illness, autistic spectrum, and developmental disability. Instead of addressing a shortage of psychiatric beds, mental health practitioners, and the treatment of autistic people in the hands of law enforcement, they chose to attack guns themselves and shun men who experience a mental health crisis until they burst.

At least Republicans have voiced concerns about the people behind the gun instead of the guns themselves, but I also feel. this is all talk and no action to address the nation's mental health crisis or the struggles with severe mental. illness or developmental disability.

Regarding the last paragraph: you are correct in surmising that this is talk over action. The reason for this is because there are more than enough Republicans to block anything serious even from their own party. The primary benefactor of mental health issues being basically ignored in favor of just medicating the crap out of people is the pharmaceutical industry. Roughly 90% of all house congressmen (and I think ~80% of senators - it is basically the entire Democratic party and a significant majority of Republicans) are at the very least stockholders for the country's biggest pharmaceutical companies, and many of them receive "generous donations" to keep them in line and in office. Furthermore, about half of the "defense contractor" lobby is also made up of pharma companies. The result is the massive number of misdiagnosis cases to get (mostly minors) dependant on a lifelong pharmaceutical product. This is especially obvious with how COVID was "handled," as well as the bogus arguments to promote transgenderism in recent years, because every patient is a golden goose.

I've definitely seen the left advocating for the disabled. Heck they advocated for defunding the police to put more money into mental health services or at the very least advocacy for mental health training for police.

They're also the most outspoken about autism and the struggles with the stigmatism surrounding it while the right are just constantly like "why is everyone autistic today must be the vaccines"

Republicans have also advocated for the mentally ill and disabled. My local county mayor and commissioners have tried to address the growing mental health crisis and the closure of mental health facilities.

What I am saying is the left's main "selling points" have placed more of an emphasis on race (the "race card"), pro-Islam, and the LGBTQRSTUV alphabet soup. They are known to weaponize identity politics.

As a white, straight, Christian male born in America with disabilities, I am the least of the socialist democrats' concern. None of their policies have helped me. In fact, most of their policies have criticized me.

I do collect disability benefits at the moment, although I have tried and tried to hold down jobs. I have held 25+ jobs. I am very multifaceted, skilled, and talented. I faced difficulties in a workplace environment, often thrown under the bus and faced prejudice because of my social deficits and mental illnesses. I don't want to be someone who sits on his ass and collect checks. I want to be able to hold down meaningful work and make a salary to one day support a family.

RFK Jr wants to make an Autism registry by working with apps to give private citizens’ data to them, of course he is promising no data will leave the app though I don’t trust him.

He’s claimed Tourettes, Autism, and ADHD are all ‘injuries’ which no they aren’t. They are neurodivergent disabilities that need assistance, support, compassion, understanding from the community as physically disabled individuals get & deserve.

Just like how we help handicapped individuals with ramps, specialized toilets, and other building codes to assist these individuals, we need that for neurotypical people.

I once went to an arcade that had an Autism Sensory night where they turn off the loud music, have headphones available for the kids, and turn the arcade sounds lower. Which really warmed my heart. We need more of these considerations, not less. Tracking every Autistic and treating them like an alien isn’t going to help anyone.

Just as I said when it comes to physically handicapped we have accessibility ramps and disabled toilets, though we should be giving people like you & me a leg up with support just as we do physical.
I wouldn’t call it an injury, I would call it a neurological issue that needs to be met with compassion and understanding.

Typically at some point in time of your life you will be dealing with some type of disability or illness. Many people that fought in a war now have disabilities or came home with a disability. Severe mental illness alone accounts for over 6 percent of the population. That does not include other neuro-psychological issues. It definitely doesn't account for all the physically handicaped, mentally ill, the blind, and neurodivergent combined. There is a huge population of people with a disability of some kind.
