Because I'm overseas , and they changed postal rules , I'd missed two local elections ( council ) so I wanted to make sure I voted ( for Tim Wilson ) as the seat was line ball , so I caught the bus to Bangkok ( 3 hours ) 3 x nights accommodation and a bus back to Hua Hin , call it part holiday but if no election I would not have gone.

Australia has similar problems as the US but unlike the US being able to have a working immigration system. For instance Australia will deport you on the spot if you don't have enough money to cover your flight home.

Obviously Trump had a negative effect as well but at the end of the day if the opposition had showed even a sliver of competence and plan for a better future then they would have won regardless.
