I don't believe everything has ever truly recovered since. I have had this sense of instability, frequent frugality, and stress ever since. I may have had some periods of financial gain, but they were brief and short-lived. In addition, socio-political hostility and tensions have become worse over these many years, especially starting around the Obama era. Traditional American values have been challenged and attacked all the way down to the family unit.

As someone who graduated high school in 2013, I have struggled to gain my footing in adulthood.

That is a fair point. There is the micro and the macro when it comes to economics. I was flat broke leading up to the great recession. Of course I was young then and that makes a difference. Most young people have not lived long enough to have amassed assets yet. Since then I've built a high 6 figure net worth. But have I succeeded? On one hand I say yes. But Healthcare has doubled since 2000, groceries are significantly more expesive, and housing prices have greatly increased, just to name a few. Yet wages as whole have stagnated. And to those who live paycheck to paycheck and have not been able to invest they've seen thier purchasing power erode away by inflation. Point of what I'm saying is I've been affected as well I pay the same prices someone who's living paycheck to paycheck does. But I can whether the prices increases better.

There has ALWAYS been an upper, middle, and poor class. The goal has/should be the role of the government to "promote the general welfare" not give welfare. Most Americans are hard workers and just want the opportunity to succeed. I do think we are sliding and have been sliding since before the great recession to a system where thier is no middle class, or that the middle class is tiny. And you have the wealthy and working poor (essentially paid slaves that will NEVER get ahead because the odds will be forever stacked against them).

yes, they papered over the problem... simply but debt on a balance sheet but now we owe a huge amount. They inflated their way out of it so everything costs more, but pay hasn't gone up.

the way out of it is to up your skills. you should be making $150k minimum to get above. $75k in most areas is survival. They will tax and inflate the he!! out of you.

You should have some savings but it won't buy as much.

That said, I've been doing fine for the decade and didn't make much in that time, it's really good for me and my wife. But I see how it be very hard for a young person starting, as was for me. What helped was my parents getting me a good start and keeping me out of debt. That is the ticket..

Sadly, my parents are not in the financial situation to help me much today as they could have been pre-Obama era. My grandparents did great financially, my parents decently well (especially pre-Obama), and my sister and I are barely getting by.

I'm truly sorry to hear that. The kids in our family are doing well... but they are riding the coat tails of the parents and grandparents to get established. I think it's different today, my father set out around 20 with his own house and family and could care for family. Now, takes a lot more.
I'd re-evaluate what is going on and how you are going to go forward.
I lived at home w parents for 7 years post college! I think kids move out too soon these days, people waste too much money on not beneficial college, etc.. You are young, and lots of time to improve, but need to take action if not going right.
Spend lot of time listening to Dave Ramsey and others with financial wisdom. Sadly, it's not taught in school, you have to find it on your own if parents didn't have or teach.

I just know growing up in an upper-middle-class family, my father (the bread-winner) struggled the worse during a Dem-run presidency. Going beyond economical circumstances, I know morals and ethics were challenged and attacked the most and the weaponization of identity politics by the socialist left regimes has caused an increasing divide.

I think western society has been hit by a trifecta of major events. 2008 economic downturn, Covid and political dysfunction. These events have made life and getting head a challenge for sure but life inordinately does not suck. Hell overcoming challenges makes life meaningful in my opinion. .

I was 14 in 2008. I watched my parents struggle, both financially along with their marital problems. My father had to relocate elsewhere for work, but my mom had to stay back with me and my sister, and we struggled to sell the house due to the housing market crash.

I remember the gutwrenching feeling during the 2008 election about Obama. I knew identity politics were going to be weaponized, and sure enough, it happened.

The end of the Bush presidency was shit. Obama and the dems took advantage of that and pushed their radical social-engineering agenda.
