As a lifelong registered Democrat, I don't hold out much hope for a viable candidate and party in 2028. The DNC has gone so far off the rails and is so lost in the wilderness and showing no signs of even WANTING to get out that I seriously doubt they can right their ship, turn it in the right direction and at least show signs of being capable of bringing it back to port at some point.
Regarding candidates, if by "sports dude announcer" you mean Stephen Smith, I could get behind him. He sees all the problems in the Democrat party and has no problem calling them out. He seems smart and wise and his head is in the right space.
I like Fetterman and his bipartisanship and honesty, but I don't think he is viable given all the issues he has had and considering how the Democrat party is already turning on him and trying to cancel him.

Newsome? Really? He's the perfect Democrat candidate if we want the Repubs to win again. He's slick and shiny, but he is the embodiment of the classic politician who knows what to say (he's a slimy salesman), but that's all he has to offer. He has a long, proven track record of failure.

At the end of the day, we need someone who can transform the Democrat party into a viable party. It's not that today, and I don't see any signs they even care to try. Trump didn't win the election, we lost it because we had nothing to offer other than anti-Trump. We (Democrats) were on the wrong side of virtually every issue Americans care about, and it seems we still are. We need our own platform, not just anti-Trump. Can we get there before 2028? I doubt it.
Thanks. But I can't agree with you about Walz. He's too easy a target, for what should be obvious reasons. I agree he's a good guy, but he's not up to the task of a presential campaign, let alone POTUS. He would get eaten alive.
Over time, I have crossed parties. I believe in a healthy two Party system. Presently Republicans have all the ideological cards and Democrats must self examine and recover the constitutes they had under Kennedy. They must groom new blood that appeases their grievance constitutes while moving toward the center toward Working Men (and women) and Christians (mostly Catholic). As alternative media and AI supplant mass propaganda media, they lose their mouthpiece and lose elections. I see no Democrat on the current scene who can appeal to my Plumber or HVAC contractor. They all seem slimy., cynical and disingenuous.
@Sal_Monella I agree with that. I have not crossed parties and don't plan to because I don't trust the RNC. But TODAY, I don't trust the DNC either. They come across and disingenuous, hypocritical and reactionary. All they do is react to Trump. They have nothing of value to offer Americans right now.
Honestly, the DNC needs to go back to square 1 and rebuild from the ground up. But that's going to be a tough hill to climb when their anti-Trump platform has put them on the wrong side of so many issues Americans care about. Tariffs may be the chink in Trump's armor, and could be the saving grace for Democrats (or maybe not, depending). But it's still a negative... an anti-Trump stance. The DNC needs a positive platform it can sell to Americans, and right now it has nothing.

During this past election, I got a lot of toxicity for having the view, that handing the nomination to Harris was a mistake that would result in a Trump victory.
@CaptainObivous Requiring all Democrats to toe the party line has been the biggest downfall of the party in recent years. No one feels like they can speak out against the elites, even when it's obvious to literally everyone their position is not supported by a majority of Americans.
Look at what is happening to Fetterman in the last few weeks. He is one of the few who have refused to toe the line and they have surrounded him like a pack of hyenas on a wounded zebra.
It's no different with Trump and Republicans. They are even worse. Trump just says "we'll midterm you" to anyone who doesn't toe his line.
And this is why I no longer support the party or it's die hard supporters, it's supposed to be the party of tolerance and acceptance, but these days only applies to everyone who 100% toes the party line and narrative. Speaking out against elites, back in the day Democrats used to hate Big-Pharma and rally against them, now they carry their water and smear anyone as an anti-vax nut job who dares questions them. This past election, I had several independent friends who were on the fence between voting for Harris and staying home/3rd party who ended up not voting for Harris due to toxicity from Democrats, I also ended up staying home due to toxicity from Democrats. Democrats are going to keep losing until they realize blaming their losses on racism and sexism was a bad idea and admit they need to put forward more likeable candidates and better policy positions.
Okay, not that I know much about Her, but apparently my recent left-wing find ShoeOnHead kind of likes Her, so I'd go for Tulsi Gabbard. I mean... ShoeOnHead recently theorized that the first female President of the United States would be a Republican, and since Tulsi Gabbard used to be a Democrat not that long ago, She as a leftist would likely vote for Her and thus help make Her own prediction happen, which would be fun in its own way. And since Tulsi Gabbard is apparently no longer a Democrat, She is unlikely to be a DEI/woke maniac like the Demo (n) crats even though She's a woman... Yeah... Let's make this happen, let's have the first female President of the United States be a Republican, just to spite the Demo (n) crats. 😁
I would like someone with an actual economist degree who knows how society works and will put science professionals in the cabinet positions they specialize in. We need to stop with this party "my team" bullshite, because that is part of what caused this downward spiraling shitshow we are in now. We need to vote based on qualifications and actual history of actions helping the working class. Any politicians serving special interest groups and corporations are an instant disqualification. Let's vote for competence, morals, & skill rather than the status quo of bullshite. Working class comes first because without the working class, countries don't function.
Literally, Iām going to wait. The political landscape is going to be different than today and the topics of interests / issues that speak to individual Americans (Independents, Conservatives, and Democrats) will be different than now.

Bernie won't run again. He's too old. AOC is probably his spiritual successor since she's the only other politician who doesn't have more money than most people ever see. Heck, she couldn't move to Washington D. C. until she got her first Congressional paycheck because she couldn't afford it.

2023 election is too far away to choose specific candidates, but will prefer someone who's moderate-left, is a independent and isn't toxic towards either party.

Obama was a 12 year congressman/senator. Why does AoC need to be 20+ years? The Constitution just says 35 years old. AOC has done more for Democrats, and frankly, people in Red States now that Republicans are too afraid to meet and be accountable to their own voters in these dark times, and is one of the only people articulating any kind of vision within the Democratic Party at the moment.
