I’m groaning about the Trump vs Biden rematch. But unfortunately most likely to happen.

This is assuming:

• Biden doesn’t fall down the stairs
• Trump doesn’t have a heart attack (he’s old too and is overweight)
• Trump doesn’t get criminally convicted with his trial cases
• Biden doesn’t get indicted on his corrupt Chinese dealings involving Hunter Biden

A lot can happen between now and next year. I know that. But considering the above holds true who will you vote for?

One thing about Trump is he was unpredictable. That’s actually a GOOD thing with foreign policy. It makes our geopolitical enemies nervous.

I know the USA’s defense budget is exponentially the highest in the world. But that actually PREVENTS wars from happening. I wish it could be “oh if we play nice they will play nice”.

But that’s not how it works. Other countries see that as weakness.

You can hate trump’s personality all you want. I might even agree with on his antics. But what matters is POLICY. Too many people are way too thick skulled when it comes to that.

I was originally hoping for Ron Desantis. To be fair, it was always a long shot going up against Trump anyway, but even with that aside, Desantis has run a very bad campaign. And even two years ago, I wondered if he was ready. I thought he'd be better off starting out as VP or Attorney General.

At this point, Desantis may just need to quietly go back to Florida and reevaluate himself.

Nobody. Until popular vote decides elections voting is pointless. When people vote they do not vote for a president they vote the president they want the electoral college officials to vote for. It is why presidents do not even bother campaigning in certain states. They always go for states like Florida, California, Texas because they have some of the highest electoral college votes.

If elections were determined by popular vote then candidates would spend their time focusing and campaigning in major cities. They would also cater much more to urban people vs rural folks.

Not saying the electoral process is perfect. It isn’t. But there was a legitimate reason why it’s not popular vote.

they do that anyways. you only need to secure 12 states to get electoral college win. even if you decide to not focus those 12. certain states are pointless to campaign in as they nearly always vote certain ways. meaning toss up states and opponent states became the target. either way not much point going for a 3 point state when you can get your claws on a 10, 13 or even 18 point whale. popular vote would actually force presidents to campaign in more areas because to win the election you would need 167m or more votes of which 47% vote blue about the same vote red and 34m go either. meaning any president would need between 35m and 70 more votes to get the win of which most of those numbers come from the smaller more rural states

I mean I honestly think as a people all Americans need to entirely not vote for either just to see the absolute chaos that would unfold when presidents realize that they will have to actually do things for the majority of the people like getting the economy on track. I mean for goodness sake 75% of the people in my state do not even make a livable wage. These aren't entry jobs either we are talking jobs that require damn degrees and these businesses are so greedy they can not even pay staff a minimum livable wage. Average cost of living in America is 2k-6k/month and yet nearly half of Americans are making barely 3k/month. Meanwhile in Europe. The average is around 1700 euros meanwhile full time employees in 18 of the 26 countries make 125% to 200%+ of cost of living. And Americans still have the audacity to claim we are the best country on earth

If both the DNC and the RNC put the top three on the ballot then the truly most popular candidate would win. It would also slow down some of this infighting stupidity during the primaries.

It would be nice to vote for the candidate I REALLY wanted vs the one I had to settle for. If that candidates doesn’t win at least I can say I voted for someone else.

I can’t tell you how f*cking fed up I was with hearing “Trump supporter! Trump supporter!” bs all the way through 2016-2020. He’s not the candidate I wanted. But hell would have to freeze over before I voted for HRC or Biden.

You might have a different political ideology than me. But not all conservatives are the same nor are all democrats. Having more candidates on the ballot would help reduce the stupid polarization. It would also force the incumbent president to get his shit together.

realistically we haven't had a solid presidential candidate in over 2 decades. regardless of which gets the role things are just getting worse and worse. then we have the fact that every president has to typically spend the first 1-4 years trying to fix the garbage heap they were left by the past president. even if they get it done quickly it becomes a pissing contest between the 3 bodies to get bills passed, voted down, vetoed, overruled etc. it is honestly why I am in the process of moving to Europe I keep seeing report after report of how things are going in the US and it is just getting worse and worse

Part of the problem is becoming a campaigning of theatrics but no solid solutions. I personally want DeSantis because he has a track record of sh*t done.

But as for the pissing match you are 100% right. One candidate tried to draw as much ire as possible on the other. But if there were 6 candidates then they focus more on campaigning on what THEY would do vs. shitting on the other guy.

Anyway congrats on moving to Europe. I was out there two years ago in Germany and Iceland. Very different but I really enjoyed it.

Biden is getting in hotter and hotter water about the Hunter Biden scandal. Didn’t say it was scalding yet but more is turning up.

Now I expect you to refute that about “right wing conspiracy theory”. But Biden has already been proven to be lying about those “not knowing” about those negations. That investigation is not going away no matter how you wish it would.

yeah. Last time was maybe a month ago? It doesn't happen very often, though I do get a number of replies/comments removed. I suspect it's because I don't really engage in namecalling until someone else breaks that ice. So mods who disagree with me can't really justify banning me without banning the person talking to me who they do agree with, or the admins might remove their mod status.

And I usually do assume polite good faith in all my opinions, leaving the rage orgies for the comments.

But really just asking. How often have you seen me yelling at people and calling them names over political differences or anything else? Especially right of the bat? I even try to stay calm when I get called names first because it’s usually someone trying to bait me into labeling me something they HOPE I will be labeled as (e. g. bigot, racist, incel, etc). Not really. I'm not too concerned with victimhood. Besides, it is a case-by-case situation. You can't be "refuse to rape" 99.999% of the time and expect that to mean you are owed leniency for the 10-20 times you let one slip. If you have to restrain yourself you're already doing something wrong - or at least going about it in an inefficient way.

Well in the last 6 months I’ve had 8 opinions and 2 questions flagged and temporarily removed for completely inexplicable reasons. Just this week I had my account frozen for inexplicable reasons then unfrozen. The majority of the opinions were frozen in the first of September.

There were was no name calling, no slangs, nothing. I was argumentative over controversial subjects but isn’t that what is GaG is all about?

The way I debate above is almost always how I argue with people. Respectful but I don’t change my opinions just because they might “hurt someone’s feelings”.

Where I am going with this is that there REALLY IS a huge push on the left to mute, muzzle, censor and cancel dissenting opinion. What’s happened on GAG is just an example. There is a posse of far leftist radical feminists on here who don’t like what certain people are saying. Doesn’t matter if it was said without profanity or slangs. Doesn’t matter if there are calls to violence (they will subjectively call subjects they disagree with “violence”). It’s just that they don’t like it and what it censored.

Thankfully the admins won’t stand for that bs. But I hope it stays that way. But what’s going on here is truly indicative of a much bigger problem in western culture.

When you censor people who respectfully express their dissenting opinions then you do NOT change their minds. No. Hell no. Instead you just embolden them to believe they are right and it further infuriates them. It’s dangerous.

And even if they have a really stupid and erroneous opinion you LET them get it out. That way it can be exposed and discredited.

I did catch the last line and will just say I'm grateful for the spam box in my email. When someone has a track record of being dishonest it's fine to flag new things they say with such information, in my opinion - though who can judge such things is a different question.

But the right would have people believe that is censorship, because they have every intention of being dishonest. And the fact that so many republican supporters seem to be on board with the idea that dishonest people should have freedom of reach tells me they are well aware they can not win popular support honestly and are fine with winning through trickery as long as they win.

The plain fact is your grievances about "censorship" have nothing to do with the opinion I posted nor the question. There is a reason why I set the stage for that topic. It’s not an attempt to change the subject. And it actually has quite a bit to do with political ideologies.

This extends much further to the wider culture when it comes to how the mass media, entertainment, social media, big tech and now corporations that expose slanted ideologies. The “ends justify the means” Orwellian attitude leftists have does have a very real impact and it’s infuriating people when they are silenced. That’s something you don’t have to worry about.

I guess I could start a separate question on censorship. But you are going to get a lot of much more rowdy responses vs someone like me. That’s why I started a dialogue about this so you understand my pov. Because this bullshit IS happening and more recently on GAG and it’s very wrong.

The subject you brought up is part of far right grievance culture where you know your ideology is a scam (or at least the people who push itn n you know) and know that ordinary scam filters would be the death of the entire right wing narrative, if they were ever invoked fairly. So, your thought leaders have come up with this narrative that filtering a scam is censorship, if that scam is a far right narrative, and poured billions of dollars into getting it in front of people. On my end, I'm not interested in discussing it until the right can give me an example of something it holds to that isn't a scam.
