Because social media has put a very unrealistic standard of what people should look like or how they should live.

Only if you buy into the fakery and the hype. I find the entire concept and the title of "Influencer" hilariously stupid. Everything can be Photoshopped and filtered or run through generative AI. And people will lie to get clicks. Just take a look around you. Does anyone you know have a life like what you see online. It's just Hollywood on a beer budget selling fantasies and escapism.

@OneViewpoint that's very true. I do too but it doesn't change the fact that people get depressed or sad when they see people they know living a much better life than them (or what appears to be a better life). I actually had to get off Facebook because seeing all my classmates married with children in nice houses depressed me for a while. Granted they might not have the perfect life, no one does, it's still depressing to see. As for the social media influencers who photoshop and filter or run AI, I'm not really talking about that as much. I mean a lot of people buy into it because it's what's being promoted so much on TV and movies. Take a look at the episode Nosedive from Black Mirror. That episode spoke volumes of how the American people try to live. They are always trying to reach a standard that they know they could never reach due to social media. It's why I honestly hate most social media platforms especially IG and FB. And don't get me started on Tiktok.

LOL, I had a Facebook account for a couple of years. I got rid of it maybe 8 years ago. It is the most bizarre way for people to spend their day I've ever seen. Yeah there are people with mortgages they can barely afford leasing BMW's they can't afford to buy every three years and credit cards loaded up with debt to pay for vacations they shouldn't be taking. They want it all and they want it now. And they want more tomorrow. And they want ALL their friends to see how wonderful their perfect lives are.

Are you really jealous of THAT lifestyle? Is that the measuring stick you want to use for your life? They are one bump in the road of life away from financial ruin. That shit will eat away at your mind over time.

On the other hand, they could be hit by a truck next week or get a cancer diagnosis in 6 months. So living it up while you can may actually work out for a few.

I was jealous of that lifestyle when I was younger but I am much more sensible now. I am taking life one day at a time and just appreciating the small things. I'm not homeless, I have a good job, a car, a person that loves me, and I'm healthy so that's all that should matter.

You're right though. It is a very bizarre way for people to spend their day. I got off that train a long time ago and not looking back.
