US Zillennials, how well off are you right now?

Are you achieving a stable middle-class life financially? Are you still living at home, renting, or own your own home? Did you need help/a boost from your family? Have you been able to save? Are you drowning in career instability and debt?

No nor is it my goal. I make enough to care for myself, 2 other people, 3 dogs and a pig, and can still save every month.

Are you still living at home, renting, or own your own home?
I own my home and the land around it.

Nope i dont have debt and my jobs stable.

Good for you, but I am assuming you are an anomaly?

I do not know very many people, but the majority of the ones I do know around my age either live with their parents or have some other arrangement like renting a room in someone's house or having multiple roommates.

One of the guys is a private school teacher and lives with his parents. His older brother recently got a house, only because he inherited it from his uncle. I know a software dev that rents a room in his friend's basement. My fiance still lives with her parents. Her brother (only 24) had to move out of his musty, old studio apartment back to his parents. My mom's friend's son lives at his mother's. I think it is a common occurrence.

Sounds like a lack of budgeting skills, lack of drive and a lack of sense. A lot of people waste money on shit they don't need. Junk food. Alcohol. Drugs. Expensive shoes or clothes. New phones. New video games or systems. New cars. Etc. All of that eats up money, fast. There should be no way that a teacher making more than me, can't at least have his own apartment. That's embarrassing.

It could also be due to personal health circumstances or family emergencies that can offset someone. It can be job instability or COL depending on where one lives.

One of my fiancé's friends is also a teacher, and she lives with a bunch of roommates. My situation, I just had a lot of mental health issues and job instability. Frequent involuntary hospitalizations and some run-ins with the law as well (although a misdemeanor)

I can understand that but it's still ultimately up to the individual to change and improve to fix those circumstances. Get some training. Work extra shifts or do a side gig. Sell plasma. Budget. Do food porn. Whatever. People have options, and not taking those options is on them.

Like with you. Your mental health issues is no excuse. None. Others have it worse and they work just fine. Others have run ins with the law, and they work. You use your mental health issues as a crutch for your other issues in life, and your obesity is because you refuse to get off your ass

Everyone's situation is different. I am lucky to even be slightly functional. I am being referred to Mayo Clinic because of my complexities and I am off medications in the meantime. I have never been able to hold down a job. My one and only line of work I have confidence in has been destroyed. I am trying to find a new career path at age 30, and I am struggling. Meanwhile, I am collecting SSDI and my Medicare is tied to that. I cannot risk going without health insurance.

Bad as it may sound, not everyone is meant to thrive or survive. That's been the norm throughout history. You need to get your shit together, stop making excuses for why you aren't, and actually put in the work.

My best options for work is gig work or project-based work. No lengthy pre-employment process, no interview processes, no committment, no red tape, no expectation of tenure... just called when needed, do the work, leave, and I may/may not return. Flexibility and ownership are my friends. When I have a period of Bipolar lows or experiencing crisis moments, I want to be left alone.

The American process doesn't make it simple. To have health insurance, you are either tied down to your employer in a full-tike committed role, have Medicare or Medicaid, or have to use the Healthcare marketplace with expensive watered-down plans that don't cover anything outside basic care.

And yet others manage it, even if it fucking sucks. You'll manage or you won't, you'll live or you won't.

Well fortunately you don't make those decisions. I have SSDI and Medicare at the moment, and I am exploring other career options in the meantime.

Plus, it wouldn't be so bad if employers didn't take track record/short-tenure into consideration when hiring. Like I said, I struggle to hold down work long-term. I have to accept that. I would thrive best when I can pick up gigs, do the work, and move on to different clients.

I currently work two jobs and the only reason I’m able to live “independently” is because my landlord is also my roommate and bestie from college and she has capped my rent at $500 a month because she knows I can’t afford to pay more

Yeah, 1-bedroom apartments around here are around $1500 a month, excluding utilities! I was stretched thin, even with a well-paying salary at the time. When I lost my job and my lease expired, I had to move back into my parents' house. Fortunately for me, I have my own autonomous living area.
