How stupid does Russia/Putin look now?

I still can't get over how stupid Putin was to invade Ukraine, everyone in the USA military estimated Ukraine had a defender's advantage of between 4 to 1 and 6 to 1, so we knew Russia would suffer terrible losses in this war.

Now what did Putin hope to accomplish here? Even if Russa somehow "Wins" this war, the people will hate one another even more than ever for the next 300 years. There's never going to be lasting peace in that region again.

Hindsight is 20/20. At the time before the invasion the Russian intelligence service told Putin that Ukraine was weak and politically fractured as well as that they have infiltrated and corrupted the Ukrainian society so that local administrations would welcome Russian occupation and civilians would fight on the side of Russia. Furthermore, Russia had recently crushed the Ukrainian military back in 2014 so it did not look like Ukraine was on the level of the Russian military etc..

This along with countless other reasons made Putin think that Russia could invade and capture Ukraines capital and government in the matter of weeks and then put back former President Viktor Yanukovych as the "rightful ruler" of Ukraine which was living in Russia as exile and prime candidate to become a Russia puppet.

His plan was not bad in that regard. The issue is that his information had been compromised by corruption so he made his decision to invade on a faulty understanding of the situation. The destabilization that he expected did happen, just not nearly to the scale that he was promised. Some towns did welcome Russia as liberators as was promised but not enough and not after being shown the cruelty of Russian occupation. Likewise Ukraines army was trash back in 2014 but since then they have been fighting a civil war and built up a foundation of combat hardened veterans and purged a lot of weakness from their military.

Basically, reality conspired to make Putin look like a fool.

LOL, you mean USA and Trump looking stupid.

Russia knew if it didn't stop the US getting a bigger foothold in Ukraine, the USA would eventually militarise it. This was Russia vs the world... and Russia still is holding out. Which is leading to the USA and Europe shitting themselves.

The USA has always fucked up every country is has "helped," from Libya to Afghanistan, to Columbia. So Russia knows the USA will leave Ukraine in a worse state than it originally was. Russia doesn't need to "win," just hold out until the USA abandons its stupidity.

To Russia it was more important to keep Ukraine out of NATO & EU than to worry about loses in a war. The US pushed hard to make the Ukraine war happen.

We'll see. So far their losses have been acceptable and they have weathered the sanctions and economic turmoil well enough.

Western members have been holding back their aid too much.

The situation would be different if we had begun providing the aid we have by now during the first month of the conflict.

Putler successfully delayed Western action by cheap lies and now is repeating the same with the Trump administration.

China is watching by the way.
