Do they think that this is actually going to work? My first thought when I heard about this was "Right, because White Dudes for Harris was such a smashing success the first time they tried it." Apparently, they think they need to spend millions of dollars on an academic study (to "study the syntax, language and content that gains attention and virality in these spaces") to figure out how to stop trashing men.

I think the idea is right, in the sense that I think a lot of American society’s problems are rooted in male stubbornness and warped, childish ideas of what masculinity entails. Like just the whole idea of “if you’re liberal, you’re a pussy.” I mean, that’s fucking ridiculous, lmfao. How old are you?🤦‍♂️😂

I don’t get too into politics in my hockey league, but a lot of those guys have that mentality…but if you asked them, most of them also wouldn’t fuck with me on their best day and my worst. And that’s not even what makes someone a man, beating people up, and there’s probably plenty of people just in my town who could take me, but I’m just saying, I don’t know anyone in real life who thinks I’m a pussy. And not for any non-fighting reasons either. I can’t think of a reason to think that I’m not “a real man.” If anyone here disagrees, please bring it to my attention.

I think many men have an evolutionary retardation, they’re just not keeping with the times. That’s in many different arenas, really. We can’t keep running around with the 1955 version of masculinity, lmfao. Time moves on, things are always changing, and you have to constantly be evolving, not harkening back to bygone times that could no longer be that way in our more evolved world.

Plenty of people need to clean their act up, I’m not saying all problems are because of men. But to effect positive change, people who traditionally have held power (based on whatever demographic reason, in this case, being male) need to relinquish some (not all) of it, and they just won’t do it, for selfish reasons of money and power and all that bad stuff.

Like ultimately men/white people/straight people or whatever combination of that as the case may be have to say “Yo, our bad…. we’ve been fucking up and hoarding this for ourselves and instituted systematic shit to ensure it remained that way for the most part, but we’ve realized we suck for doing that, so we’re gonna stop. Come on up here with us, there’s plenty to go around.” Until that happens, or those groups lose their existing power for some other reason, it’s going to be the same fucked up situation.

I don’t know, there just seems to be this weird mood and counter-movement of “no, I’M the victim” every time we take measures to help the ACTUALLY marginalized people. It’s lame and pathetic and embarrassing, but I hear it claimed without a shred of shame.

Men are an interesting case. I feel like they need to cut the “woe is me” shit but at the same time we should stop the age-old “you’re a man, shut the hell up, no one wants to hear your problems, suck it up and truck through it…. a lot of these bros obviously just need a hug, lmfao. But it’s tough to remain sympathetic when I hear the way they talk about the world and people different from them, and just this unnecessary and unwarranted hostility and angry energy.

The Democrats are mostly just sitting on their thumbs, I’m not expecting heroics from them. But I think the only solution right now is “ok, they tricked you into thinking Biden ruined the economy, so you voted for Trump again, despite his track record. You wanted it? Well, bro/sis…. HERE IT IS. Come find us in four years, we’ll be the ones saying “I told you so.”” These people are inept buffoons, there’s no way they won’t fail, and it’s just a matter of are Americans THAT stupid and/or THAT thirsty to have their various bigotries governmentally validated, or not?

I don’t know, I just feel like Americans have just become really, REALLY bad people, absolutely morally bankrupt, many of whom are simultaneously claiming religious righteousness, and everything we’re seeing today in politics and society is just a reflection of that. Americans just aren’t very good quality humans, as much as it pains me to have to accept that. We care about all the wrong things, and seem to want to shun the right ones. That’s certainly been the greatest disappointment of my life, just this realization of who we actually are as a nation. I was saying on another question, it’s like finding out your favorite uncle is a child molester or something. I question my entire existence because of it.

@Shiprex I get your point, but I’d maybe just counter with the fact that the alternative is to silently allow men to get away with fucked up shit. Life isn’t binary, people are basically just Venn diagrams of various characteristics, so a lot of times the same people were tearing down in one conversation can be the same exact people we’re building up in others. It can seem contradictory, but it’s just the nature of humans, and acknowledging and accepting that.

Totally get where you’re coming from and what you’re trying to defend, and I don’t even necessarily disagree. I just don’t think we should look at the world and society through the lens of “But this demographic has accomplished x/y/z in my mind, so therefore they should be given a pass for objectively bad behavior, because they’ve earned it.” Human life/societal value should be absolute, not based on what someone else decides you’ve “contributed.” Human A isn’t more valuable than Human B because Human A invented something or performs well in some kind of occupational role, and Human B doesn’t. You’re alive, your absolute value is|1|, no matter what you do or don’t do. Or maybe|0|, depending on how you view humanity.

With all respect, I see your assessment of the situation as a little cartoonish, I don’t think life is working quite that way in most arenas. Women exist, and are part of the workforce, so adjustments need to be made. It’s hard to argue FOR being crude and coarse, though, why are we aiming for that as men? Shouldn’t we be better than that? “Crude” and “coarse” are not positive personality traits, so why are we aiming to foster them? It sounds like you’re just frustrated that you can’t speak rudely out loud in the company of women, which I was just raised to believe is part of being a proper gentleman. Why SHOULD we be able to say “Nice tits, Kelly!” to our female coworker? You have to understand that where we’re coming from, maybe in some cases before our time, but I feel like that’s a good evolution to undergo.

Did you ever watch the show Mad Men? Obviously it’s television, but my mother worked in offices back in that time period and said it was very realistic and true to the times. And that made me angry, thinking about my mom being harassed by lecherous businessmen with no behavioral guardrails. I wouldn’t want any woman I care to experience that sort of environment.

You’re going to have over-swings of the pendulum where people are too sensitive, but pendulums eventually find their balance. And I keep coming back to “it’s more important to me that women, who are less powerful societally and typically physically as well, are protected than it is to me that men, who have many more built-in societal advantages, are protected in their personal interests of “doing what they want without reproach.” I’m totally fine with crossing a street at night rather than making some random woman have to feel fear, whether it’s warranted for us personally or not.

Where' have there been any broadcasters blaming women for poor educational outcomes for boys? They are dominant in those fields yet have zero accountability for FAILING to provide for boys needs.
Same could be said for women and stress, absence from work etc. all higher yet no one says anything about it. How about teaching women how MEN deal with stress? They want to be in men's spaces but men's spaces HAD to adapt to accommodate them, no sense in expecting WOMEN to adapt to entering them was there?

Stress is better dealt with by men. It's less quick to be experienced, less deeply and for shorter duration yet we're all told to emote and share LIKE HOW WOMEN DO it. Not let's try to see if we can DEAL with things INTERNALLY as men have always done. @Shiprex Ok, but the question was never a comparison between men and women, so women aren’t really a part of this particular conversation. I’m speaking about male behavior in a vacuum, which I think is fairly flawed, honestly. And to be fair, if we ARE comparing, women generally pose much less of a societal threat than men do. Men are doing most of the raping, men are doing most of the robbing, men are doing most of the assault, men are doing most of the murdering. I can’t really ignore that.

But it doesn’t have to be taken so personally. I just think men could do better, and I’d like to see us try, that’s all. No matter how much good you bring, goodness is very much erased by the evil one does in thought and deed. So I’m not just going to give a pass for poor behavior just because I enjoy the comforts developed historically by men in Western society. I’d rather live in a shantytown where people are unwaveringly decent to one another, if given the choice.

Men don't live in a vacuum though and society has been dumping on men forever. The society that was built on the lives of men to build and maintain the needs for everyone and no one is taking time to look at women in any sense as being anything.
The threat to what exactly? Being domestically abused? Dying in workplace? Losing their life protecting, saving or rescuing others? I can't tell because those are pretty common things men tend to be seen as expendable and we're not even mentioning war and conflict. Consider also the natural disasters and terrorist events and who are the ones putting themselves at mortal risk FOR EVERYONE else? Nah We don't see the gender then because that would mean giving MEN some praise and recognition and it ends up being taken for granted.
EVERYONE can do better. Look at stress, men deal with it better but NO one says why don't we BE LIKE MEN? NO we are instructed to BE LIKE WOMEN and emote with sharing, expressing, which looking at the stats, suggests is NOT a good idea given the levels of depression, anxiety, neuroticism and self harm all the way up to self deletion (men are just better at it as they tend to be more certain about their methods even though fewer men ATTEMPT it)
