What do you think of Gavin Newsom, Governor of California?

He made a very compelling speech today (Tuesday 6-10, 6 PM PDT) that I think is worth listening to:

Ignoring the subject matter, that felt like watching a presidential address. I have homework left to do on him, and some of his sit-down interview guests are questionable lately, so I need to feel that situation out. But this is the kind of counter-energy needed right now.

Hope is lost for the decency of the souls of the MAGA faction, I think they’re just very pleased with themselves to be objectively horrible people, and you can’t really do much with that type of person besides socially ostracize them. But hopefully some of the people who reside in the middle can be reached by someone like Newsom.

My fear is that he attempts to appeal to people’s sense of decency, kind of that “C’mon, guys…. is this really who we want to be, how we want to act?” And in a better world, I’d think that was perfect. But decency just may not be something most Americans care about anymore, sadly. Like you may just have to be an awful person to win now, honestly. That might be who “the people” are themselves and what they want.

But if the campaign season started tomorrow, I’d probably go with him or Pete Buttigieg. They’re both very smart, very articulate, and very good at communicating to a broad range of people. I’d maybe give the nod to Newsom just because Buttigieg is gay, which I certainly don’t care about, but unfortunately, somehow in 2025, some people still would.

Newsom is a stud. And he can stand in the middle of the ring and trade punches with Trump. I’ll never forget him punking the shit out of Donnie Smallhands when he tried to come and pretend the wildfires were being mishandled because of DEI, lmfao

This is a political attack agains the president.

I recall texas governor speaking much more appropriately towards the government that wasn't doing it's job and putting him and his state in jeapardy. they encouraged the government to help and they didn't. I think Texas governor spoke much better.

Newsome speaks well, he's maybe more measured and rational than Trump... he seems like a leader, but I think he's not. I wouldn't want him in power if I was in the military, nor if I was in ICE or the police. He seems a lot like Prez. Clinton, whom I thought was better.

They way you can tell he's not what he says... if his kid was on the line in that city wearing an official outfit, he'd do what trump is doing. Newsome is more like hillary clinton... orders people into Iraq to risk their life... then tells them they cannot shoot at a Mosque under fire without confirming permssion first... because of her fear of the you know who. You can keep him... sadly, my state follows him like a poodle follow a dobermans rear end.

He plays to his audience. He tells Charlie Kirk he's against biological men playing in women's sports but he never supports a bill that CA legislators present preventing it. During CA wild fires, he says "climate change" is to blame but when Trump confronts him with CA's poor forest management, Newsome actually agrees, for a day! Then changes his mind. Even now! If anyone thinks those aren't riots and Newsom's complicity isn't partially to blame, you really need to look at the polls, that for some unknown reason, the left no longer trust.

I like governor Newsom. He is real, passionate about the people in CA, tries hard to deal with the problems in CA where climate change is concerned, cares about ALL the people living there, and speaks the truth. He'd make an excellent president, in my opinion.

Doing a really good job given the hand he was dealt which began with the white senior selfishness Reagan-inspired Proposition 13, which mandated of referendum when taxes needed raising. Whites CERTAINLY didn't want to pay for schooling and other amenities for blacks and Hispanics, which tax increases would have done, so first the poor areas, then middle-class regions, now even wealthy places have seen their schools and infrastructure badly erode.
