This is the same argument second amendment supporters and law abiding firearms enthusiasts have been making for decades. The people in this video with machetes are already criminals. They are using those tools as weapons in the commission of crimes that are already recognized. Do the legislators think these guys were just there to chop down overgrown vegetation and someone accidentally got hurt? Are the people in this video likely to surrender their machetes now that this law is in place?

Good for Australia. The only reason anyone would carry a machete in a town would be because they wanted to hurt people. I bet even in America the vast majority of machete owners have zero reason to own one other than to commit crime.

You might be underestimating the number of people who still live in rural areas of the US. Sure, many of them have power tools and machines for the bulk of their work and recreation. What do you think they do when their machines fail? The job still needs to get done, and they do it the hard way if they have to. Also, not everyone can afford the fancy new machines and the fuel that they run on. Of course, there are the preppers. Never imagined a problem they weren’t excited to solve before they ever even had a problem! Ell oh ell! They may seem goofy to others, but i respect their resourcefulness.
Me? I collect all kinds of bladed tools and weapons. My machete isn’t particularly rare or valuable. So i wouldn’t hesitate to use it if’n i had the chance. But i wouldn’t attack someone with it unless a very bizarre situation unfolded in exactly the right place and time.
Weirder stuff has happened.
Can you imagine just chillin’ at the mall when a machete gang fight randomly breaks out?

We banned knives etc in the uk. Didn't make a difference because criminals don't care for these laws especially if they are stabbing people.

I was under the impression the 2A tyranny was aimed at GOVERNMENTS and not other civilians but perhaps the wording by failing to mention other civilians has been erased or misinterpreted.
