President Donald Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth authorized an estimated 700 Marines and more than 2,000 National Guard troops for deployment to Los Angeles, a move California Gov. Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass have sharply criticized as unnecessary. “All we want is safety,” Trump said Tuesday. On Saturday, President Trump federalized 2,000 National Guard troops for 60 days or whatever duration Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth finds appropriate. Trump additionally said other branches of the armed forces may be dispatched to support. He put in an order for another 2,000 troops Monday. Governor Newsome replied saying, "This isn't about public safety, it's about stroking a dangerous President's ego. This is Reckless. Pointless. And Disrespectful to our troops. Newsome to JD Vance saying to the VP, "Do YOUR job. We didn't have a problem until Trump got involved. Rescind the order. Return control to California."

I have zero problem with peaceful protests. I have participated in many, myself, over the years. It is a fundamental, Constitutionally protected right.

But I am very strongly opposed to the kind of violence, vandalism, looting and arson that leftists participate in and Democrats seem to endorse.

If there were bands of Nazis attacking people of color or burning stores owned by Jews, Democrats would be screaming.

But Democratic officials incite and encourage that kind of thing when it serves their own political purposes. They say they support civil rights. But what about the civil rights of business owners whose property is destroyed? What about the value of neighborhoods that have been vandalized by antifa, radical leftists and people of color?
What about the civil right of people who are terrorized by gangs?

Democrats try to turn it around and say that those who oppose left-wing violence are intolerant, right-wing nationalist racists. And naturally they try to blame everything on Trump.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) was created in 2003 pursuant to the Homeland Security Act of 2002. It deported hundreds of thousands of illegals during the Obama and Biden administrations - more that during Trump's first term. Why didn't Democrats riot about that?

I'm not in favor of hunting down and deporting everyone who is in this country "illegally". I'll save my reasons for another time.
But I am strongly in favor of deporting gang members, drug dealers, thieves, violent criminals (that includes violent protestors), and moochers.

I am in favor of coming down hard on all violent protestors by whatever means necessary. Assault law enforcement officials and risk death.

I'm all in favor of peaceful protesters, but that is not what's happening in LA. I'm especially upset, and disappointed, that so many politicians in California continue to support this anarchy.

Wrong style of protest. I don't believe ICE is doing something wrong so the way to change my mind is showing incidents where they are actually out of line and putting reasonable arguments forward. Instead I see terrorism so then you get what you ask for in trump doubling down on ICE to show strength and everyone cheering it on. For those against ICE its a very bad move, but it also feels fake to me. I wonder who funded it and what groups are behind it. Because it feels fake ill not hold those against ICE accountable if they condem the riots.

My opinion is the same, we need a leader who deescalates not escalates.

When you escalate the response, you allow the crowds to escalate which increases tensions and close encounters / clashes and burnings.

When you deescalate the response and give distance to the crowds, you allow time for the crowds to dwindle and fade out as cops keep their distance while allowing the police more calm and cool environment which makes them less provoked easily.

It makes sense to want to deescalate, almost as if President Trump doesn’t want that and wants to pin Americans against each other so it is US V. THEM since culture wars also taking advantage of the narrative is more important for his political agenda than fixing issues. He manufactured this.

I want to make clear that protests around the country and aggression from a dictatorship are two different things and have two different politics behind it.
I didn’t want us appeasing Russia by handing over Ukraine since Russia got its support from China (drones), North Korea (additional troops), and Iran (missiles). Appeasement only goes for so long, protests in a free country are different.

If anything that was being done actually followed due process, I would believe he actually wants to remove the illegals. However, the actions he sanctions are not after illegals. They're after anyone who looks Hispanic or is following the law regarding their status as an immigrant. My dad's family didn't go through immigration to get here. Should they be deported? The U. S. wasn't a country at the time though. A bad precedent would be set by deporting those whose ancestors fought to make sure the country existed.
