President Donald Trump acted illegally when he ordered thousands of California National Guard troops onto the streets of Los Angeles to combat protests of immigration raids, a federal judge ruled Thursday.

After a 70-minute hearing in his San Francisco courthouse, U. S. District Judge Charles Breyer granted a temporary restraining order sought by the state of California, which argued Trump had exceeded his authority when he sent the troops to Los Angeles to take over policing duties usually handled by local law enforcement.

Trump’s actions, the judge said, “were illegal — both exceeding the scope of his statutory authority and violating the Tenth Amendment to the United States Constitution. He must therefore return control of the California National Guard to the Governor of the State of California forthwith.”

Yes, I saw. Doesn’t shock me.

As I said before, deescalation means less conflict with protestors / police which keeps tension at a minimum. Escalation means more conflict therefore more tension which means more police or national guard / protestor close encounters which results in more likelihood for injuries and maybe even death. That is the logical approach.

Judge has ruled and made I believe a 30 page summary of why he wrote the decision, highly recommend people go read it regardless of side of the political spectrum.
I really want people to grasp as to why this is deplorable and unfitting a leader of the free world since they can be a leader or know someone personally in power and could course correct now or end up making the same mistakes.

I also heard Trump preplanned the response / escalation to control the narrative and make Democrats look bad, though I’m having doubts since he flat out denied that the protests in LA have expanded to Texas and other places on live TV. If the idea was to make Democrats look bad then why wouldn’t he celebrate this rather than cover it up?
He seems to want to control protestors with National Guard then once it blew out of proportion showcasing his strategy of escalation doesn’t work in reality, he decided to play it down the severity. Weak, incompetent, old fool as usual.

Hardly surprising, Trump is perpetually toeing the line and trying to find loopholes and work arounds to limits on presidential authority.

Considering that the US was founded on check-and-balances, separation of powers, etc I can't say I love watching the national leader try to usurp the basic structure of our government. Feels fundamentally wrong.

He’s not breaking new ground here. Biden made choices regarding the National Guard without consulting with state governors first. Democrats had no problem with that. There’s an enormous amount of hypocrisy surrounding leftists’ take on Drumpf’s presidency. Obama deported three times as many people as Drumpf, the most of any president in history. Democrats didn’t say ‘peep’.
Pelosi has stood up in front of the House and argued for tariffs multiple times. The democrats stood and cheered. Drumpf does it, it’s the end of the world.

@Chazmatazz269 Did I say I supported those moves either? I can't say I know as much about previous administrations (I was a kid during Obama after all), so I really can't give opinions on them.

That said, I'm not a hardcore democrat by any means, I just absolutely hate what Trump, and to a large degree the republican party, is doing in pretty much every arena. The fact that the opposition also did something doesn't make it ok, it just makes both sides wrong. Thankfully, as an individual and free thinker, I am not, in fact, confined to the current beliefs of a specific political party, regardless of how I register.

None of this, however, changes the fact that I don't support Trump's decision in this case, nor how he's conducted himself in general over the past few months.

There is precedent to what he did. JFK did the same thing in Alabama in the 60s. The democrat governor tried to stop him but the law was on his side.
I imagine that this judge is a democrat and he is making this up as he goes along.
I would pull out all the National Guard troops and the Marines. I increase the number of ICE agents and arm them with assault rifles and tactical shotguns and anybody that tries to assault them or get in their way gets to eat lead.

That initial ruling got temporarily stopped on appeal. It’ll be interesting to watch how that situation evolves.

No, it wasn't. The ruling was delayed until Friday by the judge to allow the administration to appeal. No appeal has happened yet.

I think the problem is since we've completely forgotten about Nixon, secret wars, domestic spying, corruption, the war powers act, and Fords complete fuck up by granting him a pardon instead of putting him on trial has led to too many tools being left lying around for the president and as we all know any tool becomes a weapon in the wrong hands. Eisenhower had a good reason to do this in that the local police were all KKK members and refused to protect black students and often victimized them. Nothing like that was the case here in LA - rather, Trump constantly threatens others and tries to prove how tough he is.
