Depends on the group and their objectives. If for the sake of argument Iran wanted to target Trump or pro-war politicians in particular then it would be very simple to just go to their homes and launch a mortar or something at it when they are home.

If you want to target the American people directly then you need to start consider targets based on what the message you want to send is. For example, the terrorist attack recently in India where a group emerged into a reclusive tourist location was ideal for attacking unarmed people without being afraid that the police would show up as an armed response for a very long time. This would allow you to send a very brutal message since you can take your time to torture and traumatize people while still having enough time to get away.

Locations such as islands or locations deep in national parks would probably be equivalent. It would work especially well if the victims does not have access to vehicles outside of one or two busses that you can easily target first.

Lastly, if the group wanted to attack America more in an abstract sense then it does not really matter what the target is. 9/11 for example targeted a bunch of iconic American locations such as the twin towers and pentagon as well as a failed attempt to crash in another government building.

This could literally be anything. Destroying a crewed rocket intending for the international space station as its preparing to launch for example or exploding a car bomb on the golden gate bridge. The actual damage and deaths is less important than the "insult" to America as a whole.

That said, more realistically it will be a domestic terrorist and probably far right extremist. An example would be people who bomb abortion clinics or murder politicians. As such my bet is that some crazy racist in the deep south will go into a gay club or a mosque and start killing people.

i would think it has to be in California this time. California is all anybody is talking about these days, and terrorists would want their attack to get the most buzz. So they'd definitely go where people are focused on. I think.

Now the smaller attacks done by bat crap crazy liberals can and will be anywhere they think they can get away with it, while having democrat backing. So any democrat controlled city is basically at risk.
