11 moWhat thing I think is if we stop making differences seem bad and embrace the difference instead of always make them seem like a bad thing that would be a lot better. I’d be willing to be kind to those that are different from us cause life would be boring if we all thought and acted the same way all the time.

11 moI think I would need right wingers to watch these two videos, acknowledge that they’re absolutely spot on and are a perfect indictment of almost everything MAGA sucks for, genuinely realize the folly of their beliefs and ways, and pledge to be the kind of “good people” that I THOUGHT we were all raised (and honestly just innately know) to uniformly understand and strive to conform to. I just see a complete abandonment of what I thought were good values, or at least they’re very selectively applied to only some, and also a complete lack of integrity to truth….
https://www.youtube.com/embed/ff_wMQwu-i0https://www.youtube.com/embed/OoZKSJ1n6UsAnd I could just never, ever rock with that, on a moral decency level. I don’t know where that all fell off a cliff, but holy smokes, I thought we were better humans than this, and it’s been one of the most jarring experiences of my life to be shown the true colors of so many of my neighbors and countrymen.
It’s like finding out your favorite uncle is a sex offender, “disappointing” and “shocking” doesn’t even begin to describe it. But it’s like they want us to welcome them to the table as if what they’re saying is normal and reasonable, and not atrocious.
I’m a lefty but not a Democrat…. you can say whatever you like about them, but they’ve never done anything that’s deeply offended me on a decency level, at least not in what they’ve said out loud. Simply put: Democrats sometimes disappoint me, but Republicans and conservatives, particularly of the MAGA variety, horrify me on a level much deeper than politics…
https://www.youtube.com/embed/TW-51QKnWE8The initial reconciliation needs to be within themselves. An awakening is going to have to happen, but my fear is that humans are stubborn and they’ll never break out of this. And a lot are younger than me, so I’m stuck with them for life.
But there needs to be a self-realization that how they’re thinking is morally wrong and based largely on factually incorrect information, that they’re being hustled, accepting that and trudging through the embarrassment and shame of falling for it, realize our worst criminals are guys in suits and ties, start going after them like we go after street crime, and one we realize it’s those suits who are charging us too much and paying us too little are the REAL enemy, and the people you hate are who you’ve been pushed to scapegoat by the very suits I just mentioned. “It’s easier to fool a man than it is to convince a man that he’s been fooled.” - Mark Twain
Unfortunately, many people in this country are hellbent on being told that it’s ok to be a piece of shit. They’re looking for a permission slip, whether that be for calling someone a slur out loud, or to be selfish and say “fuck other people! Me first!” And they don’t want you to call them out for it, then suddenly others are the problem for just pointing out that you have a piss poor attitude and worldview, not to mention overall character.
I don’t know. Very sharp negative turn for my country going into the second half of my life, and now I’m rethinking everything about being from America. I’m too old for military service at this point, but if the shit jumped off…. would I even want to put my life on the line for these people? I’m not so sure. In order to feel my battlefield actions were heroic, I’d need to believe that the people I was fighting for were good, or at least innocent, but I don’t find a lot of these folks to be either of those.
But unity will have to come with a prerequisite of social evolution and a return to factual and intellectual honesty. If that’s accomplished, I have better things to do than policy decency. I don’t want to be doing this. But so many people are acting up egregiously, so this feels like a call to action, on a soul level.

@Lliam You have to understand, man, this is ten years later now. We’ve been tiptoeing through the tulips before this last election. We tried being nice, or only light vitriol. We tried explaining it rationally, and bringing legitimate substance and support for whatever argument. It gets rejected without consideration, dismissed as “fake news”, and we get told we’re weak and we’re pussies and we’re traitors and that we’re fuckin’ pedo groomers, lmfao.
Get called every name in the book, and the majority of our objections just boil down to “hey, can’t you guys just be nice and leave everyone different from you alone? They aren’t harming anyone.” And they look dead in our faces and say “LOL, NO.”, and develop an entire cottage industry of trying to somehow justify these horrendously antisocial attitudes and behaviors as just some reasonable counterargument worthy of consideration. Like that alone is absolutely fucking crazy.
So my gloves are off at this point. And I don’t think it’s at all sanctimonious to vocally oppose things that should be objectively understood in any sane and decent world to be bad. We’re being asked to pretend that discriminatory behavior is just some normal idea that deserves oxygen in the public square. And I just can’t ever suspend reality enough to ever be able to do that.
- 11 mo
@Lliam Do you think I like finger-wagging? Do you think I like writing thousands of words on the internet having to defend what I THOUGHT was common decency that anyone not fit for commitment to a psych ward could agree upon. It’s the greatest annoyance of my life that I’ve been forced to hop into the political realm. I don’t want to be here, but my sense of human decency won’t allow me to just whistle past the graveyard on this one.
I wish Obama was in office and shit was still on cruise control. That’s not even out of particular love for Obama, I just miss someone quietly doing their job, there was no carnival atmosphere to political movements, and shit just got done while I watched and played sports, and hardly had to give it a thought. I’d hear about the President once every week or two, just on the news, kinda casual. That’s what I want, not someone try to shake everything up, make wholesale changes to things that aren’t broken, breaking broken things even worse than they are, and just generally being boisterous to a point where I can expect several sensational headlines per day. That’s not politics, that’s a circus act.
I’m annoyed by litmus testing liberalism, I get it, but these MAGA conservatives….. I can’t even believe they say some of this stuff out loud on camera. I’m shocked a human wouldn’t feel intense shame and embarrassment for some of these beliefs they hold. We’re not talking about tax rates. We’re talking about violations of all the principles I was taught as a child in a Western Judeo-Christian society that literally define whether or not you’re a good person. And the people championing that brand of society the hardest are the most egregious and unabashed offenders. So everything other than that is very back-burner to me. These people are attempting to change the very moral fabric of our country that we’ve all known in our lifetimes, for all the warts we already had. - 11 mo
@Lliam There’s a little disagreement on Israel-Palestine, but beyond that, the liberal camp seems to be in fairly organized formation. And just most domestic social issues, again…. it feels like obvious stuff.
Question: “Should you give people of demographics different than yours any shit of any sort?”
Answer: “Easy one, NO. Next question. You can give me something harder than that.”
How that can’t be agreed on by everyone, I’ll never get. I don’t think that’s at all sanctimonious or judgmental, and this is exactly the type of thing where I can’t believe this even needs to be a conversation with adult human beings.
There’s no better way to describe this than my jaw just being on the floor at the revelation of how many people we have in this country who truly don’t give a fuck about anyone but themselves, individually and demographically.

11 moBurgers, Hotdogs, Fireworks, and Summer Beats always brings Americans together as Americans should!
To answer on a broader sense, we need to 1) acknowledge the other side as American and wanting to bring a better day, just voicing different opinions on how to achieve it. 2) be able to stand on basic principles, truths, and ideas of our country’s founding and where it needs to be headed 3) voice ideas and not be afraid of others to build on top of them and 4) value your fellow citizen, seeing them as an equal not an opposition.
With one important thing (5): It is important to know where your core beliefs lie and where you stand in the moment, ask yourself “is there really anyone contributing what I preach?” then you’ll line up to showcase what is special about you, not about someone selling you an idea making their dream a reality, you want them to see your dream and hoist it up high regardless of political party that achieves it because it is your dream. No one can take away our dreams, they are ours.
(6) Look past the anger, resentment, the pointing of the finger, and the echo chambers we subscribe to (willingly or not planned) and just see each other as Americans, be willing to hear from one another, talk to one another, and be respectful / be treated with dignity. Changing our mindsets and lowering the temperature to put it in simplest terms, that is how we unite.
I believe all these 6 pillars bring unity. Not just one brings it, all them do.
Happy July 4th To All Who Believe In Freedom!
P. S. God Bless You and your families & loved ones.
10 Reply 1.2K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. You can't. There are irreconcilable differences. Things like gay rights and abortion. As long as there are two sides of those topics then there is no peaceful way to "unite". I guess you could try replicate how USA functioned previously where the right wing was shamed into keeping their opinions to themselves but I dont fancy your chances.
You can't even keep families together, much less a whole nation. The united American identity in USA is as such pretty much a dead concept and the social foundation for USA is more or less erased. Fastest way to progress would probably be to wait for these people to die from old age and start over again.03 Reply- 11 mo

@AMS700CX4u2 It is pretty much how cultural change has happened throughout history. Rarely will you be able to change the mind of a whole generation once they have already decided upon something. Only through violence or entropy will these sort of changes manifest and unless you think USA should have another civil war then time really is the only way.

Anonymous(45 Plus)11 moNothing left to celebrate, is there? Unite! Pfft. What good does this country have to provide the world? All environmental steps have been jacked, all the allies ostracized and dictators embraced. Then we get down to tourists jailed in concentration camps in other countries, our own elderly have had meals on wheels and hospice care.. not to mention medical equipment currently being removed, health insurance, and ssi. Medical research has been defunded as is veterans programs... on and on and on. Trump has his micro penis lodged in USA's hole while he steals it's wallet to share with rich people who do bot even like him.

11 moAs soon as people wake up and stop thinking republican or democrat and look down the middle to see what is actually going on and that it's the same actors every single time behind the problems. And uniting won't happen until that happens.

11 moWe try to agree on one of the most important things in this world that will make things better and that's our economy. If we can all work together to make it better, then we would be a much better country.
We can do this by supporting local businesses, spend less and save more, starting a business or side hustle, and putting the right people in office.00 Reply 1.9K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Until all parties are willing to take a hard look at themselves there will be no unification. There's messed up things and propaganda from all sides and until everyone is willing to look in the mirror and see their own flaws it simply can not happen

11 moIt will take some time.
But if schools would teach more convincingly how the U. S. were initiated, and with what ideals, a future generation may get the feeling for it.
As per today -and we see it in a number of comments here- there even isn't a will to 'unite'.

Remove all the politicians who keeps flip flopping ideas to divide people, such as the Republican Party, along with the Democrats who don't support people. The only solution to the problem is to remove the satanic government and pass a bill that bans electing politicians with a history of criminal records.00 Reply

Great as a world leader in reform missionary effort to the impoverished, Mediator to those nations with hostilities, We were able to do those things because of our economic success. Outsourcing of the Jobs that gave us economic success. came from the Right I know they did it for Survival, but it cut the throats of those who built the economy and pumped tax money into the Government so that America could be all those Great things.

At this point our economy is not as robust as it was following WWll. So we are unable to do those things And you are correct , it is not our responsibility. But when we were booming and thought we had to show the rest of the world the way, we started sharing our surplus. A Surplus which we no longer have.
