False. Not even close. In fact your statement actually sounds like Capitalist propaganda designed to get stupid people to buy into an economy based on consumerism designed by Capitalists.

Minimalism says I don't need need your Capitalist Consumerism in my life. I don't need more stuff in my life. I need less stuff.

Because the stuff doesn't make my life better. At some point the stuff begins to own you. And you devote your life to getting more stuff, maintaining your stuff, housing your stuff, and living in fear of someone damaging or stealing your stuff. You end up serving things or buying things to impress other people who generally make no positive difference in your life.

Minimalism says slow it down, free up your time, cut out the people who don't matter, cut out the stuff that doesn't matter, focus on what truly matters, and maybe enjoy life more. Basically stop and question the whole concept of an economy based on consumerism. What has it done for you? Would you be happier if you dialed back your consumption significantly? Why did you ever simply accept the system you were born into that markets to you 24X7 to get you to buy, buy, buy nonstop? That only keeps you mired in debt and poor. For what?

Think it's a mixture of both. You can find the traditional values it came from. But capitalislm also amplifies and promotes it when those want to reject capitalism

No quite the contrary.. Minimalism emerged as a reaction to materialism/consumerism. As a lifestyle, you can go back pretty much as far as the beginnings of recorded history, back in antiquity and find people who rejected things in favor of experiences, often spiritual ones (such for instance, the Stoics)
