There is a clear, consistent correlation between education level and political affiliation in the U. S. Higher educational attainment significantly predicts Democratic affiliation and liberal ideology, while lower levels of education—especially among whites—align more with Republican affiliation and conservative ideology. This educational divide has sharpened considerably in recent decades and remains a defining feature of American political identity.

5 moStupid people are too stupid to understand they are stupid. They tend to...
- Gravitate to simple "common sense" solutions that don't work because it's all they can grasp.
- Retreat into "beliefs" when confronted with any argument that requires critical thought because they have no capacity for critical thought.
- Belittle and minimize the value of education because they weren't capable of getting an education themselves.
- Blame their problems on anyone but themselves. They are incredibly insecure. Race, religion, geography, education, income, all become "others" they can blame and hate.
- Tend toward violence because they are easily frustrated and have no other tools to deal with their situation in life.
- Have no tendency for empathy or even understanding how their vote affects them. They are too stupid to connect the dots between actions and consequences. They constantly vote to screw themselves and everyone else.

5 moI think that that trend line would reflect more favorably on the Democrats if it was also accompanied by income performance commensurate with the education levels. Unfortunately our education system doesn't teach us as much in the way of practical application as one would hope.
It's all well and good to have advanced degrees, but if you aren't making good money, you're just a chump with a bunch of debt and a degree. The majority of Democrats aren't making a whole lot of money.
Basically, the split is that Democrats tend to populate the highest and lowest earning groups. It's easier to not make much money than it is to make a lot of money.

It’s more about practical application of knowledge than money.
That said, the ability to make money in the real world is a very effective acid test for someone’s ideas. - 5 mo
I have too much experience in entrepreneurship… singular ideas can fail for any number of reasons that truly have nothing to do with the person calling the shots.
- 5 mo
It could, if someone only ever gets presented one opportunity to make meaningful money in life (and I recognize that those people DO exist).
Most people are presented with many opportunities through out life, though. I think that pattern of outcome is much more telling than singular instances. Success and failure are cumulative. - 5 mo
@goaded I didn't communicate my point as succinctly as I could have.
What I'm trying to say is that someone's practical ability to implement their education to sustainably make money is ALSO reflective of their practical ability to implement that knowledge to create sustainable solutions for other things. It demonstrates an understanding of how the world actually functions.
It's admirable to pursue policies that save and improve lives. But, aspiring to help people isn't an education-based thing, nor does that aspiration automatically make a policy a good or sustainable idea. - 5 mo
I wasn't talking about aspirations, I was talking about people who go out and make a positive contribution to society in ways that improve or even save lives in exchange for a modest living. These things are often evidence based, like the actions in Baltimore that are saving lives.
"Researchers at University of Pennsylvania Announce Preliminary Study Findings Showing GVRS Is Associated With Significant Reductions in Group Violence"
mayor.baltimorecity.gov/.../2024-02-08-baltimore-city-outlines-next-steps-group-violence-reduction-strategy
Nobody's getting rich off that, but they're very successful in saving lives and helping people. Or you could be a loan shark and make a fortune driving people to suicide. - 5 mo
@goaded Take a look at the people listed in that article: " Today, Mayor Brandon M. Scott was joined by MONSE Director Stefanie Mavronis, Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley, Deputy State’s Attorney Thomas M. Donnelly, Dr. Aaron Chalfin, Associate Professor of Criminology, University of Pennsylvania,"
None of those people are roughing it, by any stretch of the imagination.
And to speak to the deeper point you're trying to make; that's not the majority of Democrats. Nor is there any indication that Republican initiatives have been less successful. Republicans actually do more charitable giving than Dems. - 5 mo
You think they're the ones coming up with the detailed ideas or doing the work involved? They're just taking credit for it as well as the money. Like good capitalists. I guarantee the vast majority of people involved are making far less than them and still saving lives. They're worthwhile, not wealthy.
600 opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. I'm from the northeast, and now love in the midwest in a red state. Yes, I can see the difference all the time and I agree! The only smart people I talk with are the Democrats, OR the ones that do not agree with Trump on his policies or the way he is taking care of this country. Last person I spoke to here attended a HANDS OFF protest and we talked about it--I didn't know his stance on politics and was relieved to hear him sa, "No one is above the law!"

m 5 moThat correlation has been long documented. The redder a state is, the poorer, unhealthier and less informed its inhabitants are. We often observe from the outside to notice that Americans in general have a real talent of voting against their own interests. 🤷♂️

Studies, including a 2024 article published in the journal Intelligence, suggest that higher intelligence, as measured by IQ scores and genetic markers, correlates with left-leaning or liberal political beliefs and lower authoritarianism. This pattern was observed even within families, with the sibling exhibiting higher intelligence tending to be more liberal than their sibling, according to a study involving over 300 biological and adoptive families.

5 moThat is not the flex you think it is. This can be explained very easily. Many democrat voters tend to inhabit big city areas, where having a degree is needed in order to be competitive in the job market. Many conservative voters tend to inhabit rural small town areas, where getting by without a degree is much easier to do. Being further educated does not equate to being more intelligent or more successful. I know many people who don’t have degrees and work in the trucking industry, and they make 6 figures. I also know many people who have bachelor’s degrees, make around 48k per year, and are overwhelmed with debt. Lmao! Some of the stupidest people on the face of this planet have bachelors degrees.

@DryGermanGuy there you go
- 5 mo
There I go... where? What you describe is anecdotal and does not change the general picture/data. Our German equivalent would be the tale of the grandfather who smoked his whole life and got to live till 100. All these anecdotes might be true, but the fact is still that smoking is harmful and that red states are poorer, unhealthier and less informed. Case in point a family from Texas, making the mistake of a lifetime:

It I'd a very rigorous program. I do not discuss politics with students but most of these kids are Trump supporters. I could tell from all the smiles the day after the election

5 mocorrelation does not mean causation.
So many are trained in liberal think tanks... brain washed.
I know educated people that are right leaning and I know some that are left leaning. I also know less educated people left leaning.
There's some other factor (s) driving the thinking.
What's going on is emotional control morso... than logic.
00 Reply 5.7K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. In the US? It's a result of three things: globalization, automation, and mobility. Globalization and automation killed many of the well-paying jobs for non-college men. With little to stay for, small towns and rural areas can't retain their talented youth. They go away to college never to return. This leaves rural communities without competent respected leadership, easy prey for authoritarian grifters like Trump.

5 moIt’s not the flex you think it is considering the state of the US education system.
I like to remind lefties that GW Bush graduated Yale with a bachelor’s degree. Going to college doesn’t make you smart, let alone smarter.10 Reply - 4.6K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic.
5 moMakes sense. Conservatives ponder to people that lack critical thinking and that are easily manipulated and fear mongered. This is why conspiracy theories are so big on the right. People want to feel smart by believing in bullshit that no one else believes.
00 Reply 512 opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Obviously this is the case because, as the Soviet Union did and China does now, in the U. S. the government schools and universities indoctrinate kids in leftist ideology from before age 5.
