In the past three months, manufacturing, professional and business services, mining, residential construction, warehouses, K-12 education, the federal government, and even retailers have been cutting jobs. The labor market is going from frozen to cracking.

The first of the tariffs have JUST, finally, gone into effect. All of the job cuts from the last 6 months had nothing to do with tariffs - it had far more to do with things like AI, and in general cutting the fat. Have you seen those "day in the life" videos of tech workers who come in late, eat, waste time, go to a meeting, take an extended lunch, get a massage, eat a snack, go to another meeting, scroll TikTok, and then go home early? Yeah, those people have been cut. Along with all of the DEI-related jobs.

What most people have yet to see is the jobs from the return of manufacturing. That's because you can't stand up a manufacturing plant overnight - it tends to take 1-2 years to get a plant built and operational. Trump's policies aren't designed to pump the numbers for a quarter to look good in the headlines, they're designed to create fundamental change, which is a longer-term impact. We're going to be bringing back strategically-important jobs, so that the US can be independent and control the most important industries. For example, we're building advanced chip fabs - which is INCREDIBLY expensive and takes about 5 years to complete - but this will ensure that we'll have our own supply of strategically important processors and other chips. That's going to be a long-term benefit, but isn't going to cause hiring overnight, except for construction workers who are building the site.

But those tariffs are going to make sure a lot more things are made here, which means a lot more middle-class jobs long-term. It's been middle-class jobs that have been gutted over the last 30 years due to globalism, and that's what we're bringing back.

All of this is big change, and big change always comes with a temporary period of disruption, confusion, and uncertainty, and economies don't always react positively during such times, but Trump has been rapidly securing trade deals that are long-term agreements that allow businesses to understand how things are going to be and be able to make long-term plans. That brings stability and growth.

The hilarious thing is that everyone was predicting a complete market crash, but that didn't happen. We've actually had a great stabilization of the economy. Inflation is low, taxes ae down, and we've had growth, though the growth so far has been slow. Six months from now, when the first factories start being completed, you'll see hiring start to go up, and that will continue for a few years as more manufacturing returns.

• Farm Labor - Nuked, evaporated, shot to hell. Joe Bob is losing his farm.
• Healthcare - Medicaid funding torched, rural hospitals shutting down, US doctors and nurses being actively recruited by Canada.
• Landscapers - Losing their entire small business workforce in some cases.
• Meat Packers - Like farmers, half the labor force just walked off the job.
• Softwood Lumber - Canada shipped 90% of it's production to the US in recent years. Now they are diversifying away from the US to offshore foreign markets.

No worries, the food supply, healthcare, and housing costs won't have any ripple effects on the economy. Let the reality festival begin for MAGA!

Of course it is. Prices for anything imported or that requires imported material will go up by almost as much as the tariffs levied. This is essentially a national sales tax, and like all sales taxes, it's regressive. People with lower incomes pay a larger portion of their income in sales taxes and now tariffs. The wealthy won't notice.

Today I filled up my truck for 71dollars. Not too long ago it was always more than a hundred bucks. There was a magic number that my retirement account almost hit at the end of Trumps first term. Just before everything went to shit. Last week it finally hit that magic number. I am looking forward to a nice tax cut and the house behind me which is smaller and does not have a garage sold for $960,000.

The stock market is at record levels and July GDP was 3%. The treasury took in 29 billion dollars in July in tariffs. The only sector where there have been major cuts in in the government. That will save money in the long run.

Is it me or your truck is some kind of magical, ultimate tool to analyze the state of the economy? The BEA should come to you and ask how much you've paid for gas every single time you fill it up, then report directly to trump. @exitseven $2.79 a gallon? That's weird, because, as of today, the only states where the average per gallon is $2.80 or less are Mississippi, Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Tennessee and Alabama.

@Danzigdawson I had a career in IT before I started teaching. There were a few years where I made good money. My wife had a good career in Healthcare but she stayed home with our kids for 11 years. We had a new house built in a town that was next to a town we could not afford. Fast forward 20 years and we now live in a million dollar house.

@exitseven Same sort of story only I'm still in my one of my many childhood homes I had moved back to to look after my mum for 15 years. Family bought it for just over a hundred grand mid 80's. Now just under a mil. And surrounded by mass rent sharers using them like apartments. The owners couldn't sell them so they rent them. It has killed our property value and safety. Rapes, knifings and some. So having a million dollar home is nothing to brag about if your neighbors sold out.
