The popularity of Zohran Mamdani sets a dangerous precedent. He promises free public transportation, rent control, state owned grocery stores and other communist initiatives. He says that he will tax the rich. He has not considered that the rich will just pack up and move and eventually there will be nobody left that will pay taxes and the system will collapse.
In the 60s and 70s there were organizations like the Peace Corps and Vista where people volunteered to serve humanity in some way. It just seemed like everyone bought into the idea of American excellence and now it seems likem half the country wants to see it burned to the ground.
