What makes certain teens still think they can commit a horrible crime and get away with it?

I've been listening to a couple cases where a teen callously kills someone and then either thinks it's funny or claims they won't take any responsibility for it. Then they have the nerve to still demand to be treated like a juvenile.

Aren't they aware the youngest child to be given a life sentence in the US was 12 years old? This country is already known to sentence 12 and 13 year-old rapists or murderers as adults. They haven't gone anything lower than 12 though. The only young murderers that got away with it (judged as minors and sentenced to detention center, than released at age 21) were between ages 9-11 years old. So why would those teen (past age 12) still think they could get away with it? Then they act shocked when they get judged and sentenced as adults to either a life-sentence or a long prison time.

Aren't they aware of the Lionel Tate case? He was 12 and initially got the sentenced to life in prison without parole; the youngest kid to get a sentence like that.

Even within the legal system itself, I think its dumb that a child could straight up stone a woman to death but its illegal to “try then as an adult”

Its like wtf? They literally just committed such a heinous act that they literally shouldn’t even be considered a “child” anymore

Indeed. Not only is that teen no longer considered a child but they are an extreme danger to society. They are likely to kill or do other crimes if released. Those criminal minds, don't change. They get sneakier when older. No one can go from callously killing another person, cold-blooded murder (regardless if they're adults, teens or even a 10 year-old) to a normal, functional person. They already tasted blood so they're too far gone by then. No cure for that.

yeah they are so clueless. If USA wanted, they could go lower than 12. They tried to proceed a case towards adult court for a 10-11 year-old killer but it got declined and transferred to juvenile system. They didn't want to go lower than 12 but the fact that it has capacity of doing so if they wanted should make them rethink of even dreaming about committing heinous crimes.
It's unbelievable how they would rather throw away their life, their freedom for a very long prison time.

Because minors get slapped on the wrist unless theyre repeat offenders or committed a more serious crime

Because in some liberal states, they won't be prosecuted, especially if they are Black and they commit crimes against Whites or Asians.
