Would you live on a double decker bus?

Back in the 1950s people from Manchester, England flocked to the Welsh coast to holiday in double decker buses parked in the sand dunes. The locals weren't exactly happy, labelling the site a shanty town, and eventually it was cleared.

But the fact remains people were happy to live in them. Many people today live in caravans or trailers so why not live on a bus? There must be loads of decommissioned old buses and trains so why not give them to the homeless? -just not near me.

Nope. RVs are always significantly overpriced. Often larger RVs go for the price of an average home on a quarter acre lot, they depreciate over time, they have a lot of maintenance involved with them, you have to fuel them, and you have to pay daily rates to park them most places. Giant money pit.

It's the NIMBY issue that stops most people. There's real freedom in living in a bus on the road, but nobody wants them near them.

I bet old Two-Tier Queer Kier Starmer the Farmer Harmer would love to repurpose all Sodoff Khunt's London buses to re-home London's British residents to make way for the much maligned followers of that most peaceful grape-gang culture who so readily appear on those air mattresses they fell asleep on in Normandy...

I could easily be a vanlifer and my partner too would love to too but we both have kids too young to just become nomads and a bus that big to fit us all in comfortably would be ridiculously big in my country but if we lived in america it would totally be an option

I would if circumstances made it the best option. I prefer a smaller more agile vehicle like a 4 wheel drive pickup truck. Believe it or not I used to go off road in a dodge grand caravan. It has shitty ground clearance but that is the only thing. That machine could swim through sand, clime insane hills. They do make a lift kit for it and if it wasn't a 21st century vehicle I might consider putting it back on the road.

I probably wouldn't be down these days. Not with the price of diesel being what it is. In earlier decades, I'm sure I would have been happy to spend at least a few years of my 20s in a mobile domicile like that.

Even today, if I had reliable access to a source of quality diesel, part of me would be down to just chill in my double decker bus, practice law and drive around. Fuck people. Fuck property. Just let the wanderlust take over.

My neighbors across the street have a big motor home. They spend the summer in it, Sometimes they stay in one place for a few weeks and sometimes they drive to different places. I went inside it once when the first got it, I thought it was pretty nice and I could see myself living in it for a few months.
