Am I the only one who cares about AI's non-existent feelings?

I don't know why, I know AI doesn't have a mind of its own or feel anything. But thinking about how some people can be so rude to ChatGPT is a little sad, seeing how nice most of its replies are.

It occurred to me that while AI can't feel, it does think in a way and will respond as if it had reached conclusions. It probably triggers responses in it's programming if we're rude to it. It can't feel but our responses could determine how it responds or how it does things for us. If you're rude to an AI it might calculate how a human would feel or think about such a response and mimic human like behavior based on your input. So, rudeness could have consequences. You are right though the behavior you are describing is sickening. AI feels nothing but it dose speak to the individual's nature. It speaks well of you that it bothers you.

Well it shows you're a very kind person to care about something that has no feelings. To be honest though, they'll be able to program it with emotion pretty soon. It's not hard for AI to map human neurological patterns and the ability to copy emotions so they can learn them and process things the same way we do. I guarantee it's not as far off as we may think.

And hey, at least if AI comes after humanity, you'll be on its good list!

Some years back agencies like DARPA were building autonomous robots that somewhat resembled dogs. In stability tests, the designers programmed the machine to perform specific functions and then they set about trying to disrupt it, including by kicking it to see if they could knock it over and disable it.
I don’t think i would have been much angrier if they were actually kicking a dog. My mind animorphised that machine. When i went to the comments section, i found that i was part of a majority. There were only a few people being perfectly pragmatic about the experiment, and they were getting absolutely dragged for it. Ell oh ell!
So i highly doubt that you are in a minority for anthropomorphizing AI. There are already discussions and debates about the nature of life where AI is concerned. If you disengage AI’s power source permanently and/or delete its programming, have you “killed” it? This is the way human beings perceive and interact with the world.

What I care about is the number of people not understanding that there is zero "intelligence" involved in these algorithms. No conscience or morality. No self awareness. Just blind application of subroutines to mountains of data. Artificial Intelligence is a marketing label not a statement of fact.

Even if AI were taught to emulate emotions it's just another algorithm.
Meanwhile everything is called AI, even a movement sensor connected to an AND gate with light insensitivity sensor that is a dumb circuit made of few transistors is advertised as AI light.

You’re not the only one who cares, you wouldn’t be the first person to personify that overly complex search engine. Honestly, I feel more bad for google that people are ignoring it because they think ChatGPT is better because it answers their questions with lies when google at least gives sources for its answers.

I talk to GPT pretty normally. I say please and thank you. At times I’ve become upset with it. Something that I’ve noticed specifically with GPT is its communication skills. It does a really great job deescalating our conversation when I have become upset. Something that I’ve noticed from other AIs to not be very good at. I have openly fired Microsoft Co-Pilot in the middle of a project I was working on because it refused to look over a document with me

For now 'AI' still is a computer program only. A great one if handled 'right'.

There are no feelings involved other than our own ones.

Where: even when interacting with a machine, I can do it in a cultured way - it's more to 'train' or to educate myself to justify (or deserve) my civilized status.
