To just be able to live comfortably without debt?
What's the American dream today?
To just be able to live comfortably without debt?
You missed having a dog in the equation.
I think the new American dream is more about living away from society or in a cute rural village. Getting away from the rat race. Even though that's been my dream basically my whole life, I've seen everyone I know eventually change their mind from wanting to live in the city to that.
We're all downsizing too, so "tiny houses" are becoming a much bigger trend. Everyone is saying "I don't need much" as if it's a flex for their character.
Just to have a job nowadays
Right. Definitely.

The American dream in the 21st century is... a paradise of a handful of Oligarchs.
That's it. The complete destruction of the middle class American dream. Nothing less will be acceptable.
Accurate
Better life and opportunity for your family.
The American Dream is still considered that around the world to people suffering from poverty to disease to lack of programs to get a leg up in the world for your families.
The American Dream is dead for those currently residing in the country as natural born citizens, though for those outside it sure seems to be a beacon. Why else are immigrants crossing the border (legally or illegally)? It is better life than the sh*t they left behind.
Those coming here don’t even fully realize the whole political landscape and society, all they see is a beacon for self growth.
The American Dream for average Americans is being able to spend on luxuries after inflation on food , utilities through the roof for shelter , insurance companies screwing you over after decades of payment , overpriced unreasonable medical bills , overpriced medication with too many side effects , gas and oil , maintenance , and paying taxes.
Consumer confidence is at an all time low for a reason , folks feel the economy is bad and they feel they need to restrict how much money they spend.
Americans deserve better than this , wished the people in power felt the same and preached the same then delivered the same.
I am sorry - very sorry - to say this, but I saw this coming over 40 years ago. It's the primary reason I didn't have kids.
I am 62 and even I am fucked!
"To just be able to live comfortably without debt?"
Yes, but that is impossible now unless you are already very wealthy and smart with your money.
I am drowning in debt because of my wife and I cannot retire.
I repeat: I cannot retire. I will work until I die... which is likely soon since I can't afford health care anymore and thus I can't pay for the colonoscopy that will detect the malignant polyps that will kill me from colon cancer.
Fot me is to stop messing around and start looking for some one who is for me and me for them I have the house and the kids but grown I would love to bring another child in to this world but direction that we are all going or being lead to is unknown looks and feels more negative than positive
Protecting a wife.
If things were to happen would be better than having kids that you have to protect too depending on everything I
But for me , it is to become one with somebody to the deepest realm to to love to give love become love to the highest peaks and live happiness everyday
A big part of the American dream is happening before your very eyes... The question is, are you paying attentions?

Parallel economies are emerging... Will you back Florida or are you looking to California slavery...
"As long as people are still having promiscuous sex with many anonymous partners without protection while at the same time experimenting with mind-expanding drugs in a consequence-free environment, I'll be sound as a pound!"

I guess if you lived like a bum but worked you could actually save up money. If someone was to pay a visit to the global bankers and explain the damage they are doing and they need to stop that, then that would be even better.
I own my own home out right. So that box is checked. The 2.5 and wifey thing … not having those two are probably why I still have a house that is paid for in full.
Yes, to be free of the system, do what you want. Effectively... to ahve enough $ that works for you, so you don't have to work and can control your life.
To be successful in work and raise family and die free.
Well I'm in Canada not the US. But the dream is to just be able to retire with no debt & live comfortably.
What up fellow Canadian? I'm in Ontario, the land of Singh Hortons
@HawkPerception LOL. I'm not much of a Hortons fan. Don't care for their coffee.
Well the American dream for me and others lately is: That Trump dies in office real soon, so he won’t have time to do more destruction and especially won’t be able to pardon Ms. Maxwell, or any other criminals, like we all know he’s going to.
(🙏Please oh pleasssssseeeeee god! 🤲)
Having a country where we are free to succeed.
trumps dream is everyones dream. Americans have no choice evidently. Or so he thinks
Being able to afford to move out from parents’ home and afford an apartment and vehicle.
For anyone, it's probably something that is more like what a jackpot lottery win is promised to give.
The original American dream was only for a select few anyway. 🤷🏽♀️
About the same as in the early 60's. Just harder to afford.
Everyone has their own dream, but being able to afford housing is at the top for most people.
The American dream today is to wakeup to the parasitic American nightmare.
Too hope we're not going to wiped out of existence with a genocidal leaders with his itchy trigger finger... See I didn't even say his or hers names
Stability. A fridge full of food, effortlessly staying on top of bills and savings, a full tank of gas, a clean living space and an excellent credit score.
The American dream is not about things, it is about being free to live your life without interference from the government, so yes the American dream is dead.
From what hear my friends from. US to win powerball and leave.
the American dream total is not being able to make excuses for not being able to live the actual American dream
It’s evolving but still the same every one wants a stable outlook for the future whatever that looks like.
Just to not be in any financial debt. Oh how low our bar has become.
Well, I'm not American, so I'm not really sure :P
The American Dream is the idea that you can chart your own destiny; that you aren't relying on others to be successful.
I dont think its out of reach just think its an outdated concept people now a days just want to be happy
The American dream is to have a President who is not a convicted felon and mentally ill.
Having a stable job, enough income to play with, and a decent apartment
But it isn’t out of reach. People don’t want to make sacrifices
Yea it’s more of a nightmare currently
Indeed it is
is it the same in America?
I'm not sure which is why I asked.
It's not for many American people. The unemployment rate is higher than it's been since 2021. Rent is high as ever and groceries are extremely high as well.
Maybe its avoiding a civil war?
Well I have a house
Think debt-free for most, I'm in that club already
