No, they will not. Most Californians are upset the way their current Governor is leading the State.

No state should be independent. This is what the US Civil War was about...
Before the Constitution took effect, the Articles of Confederation (which is short for The Articles of Confederation and Perpetual Union) established that the United States would be a "perpetual union" and that states, once joined, could never leave.
This carried over into the Constitutional era as well.
In fact, the 1869 Supreme Court case Texas v. White asserted that in no uncertain terms.
This was the holding from that case:
Holding
Texas (and the rest of the Confederacy) never left the Union during the Civil War, because a state cannot unilaterally secede. US Treasury bond sales by Confederate Texas during the war, originally owned by pre-war Texas, were invalid, and the bonds were therefore still owned by the post-war state.35 Reply- 10 mo
@jjj101010 The difference between the colonies and the states is that England created the colonies.
The states resulted from their transition from colonies.
But each state was fully independent once the Revolution began.
However, American leadership realized they needed to unite for their survival.
Thus, the Articles of Confederation and Perpetual Union was created and each state willingly joined. It was a choice they made. The colonies had no choice in their creation and no choice in how they were taxed or governed either. "No taxation without representation!" The states, as part of the USA, have representation and a voice in their destiny.

History shows, again and again, how confederations fail... always.
This is why the USA, as a confederacy, was failing and replaced by a federation with the
Constitution (which had to be ratified by the states)
This is one reason why the Confederate States lost the Civil War.
"If the Confederacy fails, there should be written on its tombstone: Died of a Theory" - Confederate President Jefferson Davis.
This is one reason why the EU has not succeeded in unifying Europe and things like Brexit and the Far Right in Europe are happening.
============
You need a strong national government to succeed and last in this world because it is not a question of "if" that its constituent parts will be at odds, but a question of "when".
In fact, this is one reason why the US Supreme Court exists. Under Article III, the Surpreme Court is given "original jurisdiction" over cases between the states:
- - -
In all Cases affecting Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls, and those in which a State shall be Party, the supreme Court shall have original Jurisdiction. In all the other Cases before mentioned, the supreme Court shall have appellate Jurisdiction, both as to Law and Fact, with such Exceptions, and under such Regulations as the Congress shall make.
- - -
Such cases happen a lot... A famous recent case was in 2020 right after the election: Texas v. Pennsylvania.
So, if a state has a problem, the state can go to court, but it can't secede.

10 mono, its ok, they are different. I went there in the 1990s and was happy to leave.
It/they are highly productive in their farms and tech... as long as their numbers are good, all good.
you don't want to lose california into the ocean, we will all starve.
10 Reply 1.1K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Yah I can see it now in the future all states start going independent their own country in the United States. Each State will start declaring war on another State. That's how stupid we are. But we are the ones to keep hirin. The public officials. Where's the ones that put them an office

10 moWell if it does I’m leaving, I already don’t like him and the direction of the democratic party.
Only reason why I’m still here is because of my financial situation. But the second I have a few thousand saved up I’m leaving this shit hole12 Reply- 10 mo

10 moThe current kakistocracy doesn't represent the best interests of the people of the United States. I would love to see California, Oregon and Washington secede and form their own country, but I don't know about all those sports teams and the ramifications it would have! LOL

Anonymous(45 Plus)10 moHow is asking citizens for their vote on something separation? Besides, every red state in the US would collapse without CA. (I personally think they should stop for a while to earn back appreciation, everyone takes California's generosity for granted) They would be the fourth largest economy if a stand alone country.
10 Reply4K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. It might, but not in our lifetime. Newsom is finally talking to Trump the way he talks to others and it's a breath of fresh air. We all know Trump can throw punches, but he's never had to take them because people were trying to be nice to him and civil. Newsom decided that he'd be as civil to Trump as Trump was to him, and Trump doesn't be civil unless someone is completely subservient to him. Newsom wasn't.
10 Reply2.8K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. I was watching a YT channel on why California should secede from California and forming a new state.
How hard is that to do? Are West Virginia/Virginia and North/South Carolina cases of States seceding from themselves in the past?
12 Reply- 10 mo
West Virginia and Virginia split at the Civil War with West Virginia supporting the North and Virginia offering the South their greatest General, Robert E Lee, and their best army, the Army of Virginia to the southern cause. North and South Carolina fought for the South and I don’t think they ever split, they are just big states.

10 moIf California declared its independence, you'd see an even larger migration of people from the state than you see now.
20 Reply 6.5K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. I wish they would, and Washington and Oregon could join them. We would save a lot of money that we send to Washington to subsidize the red states.
20 Reply- 1.4K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic.
10 moIt could , we could just give it to the commies but it wouldn't take long before Mexico or China or someone took it away from them.
10 Reply They can't. They'll all die of thirst in 2 weeks without water imported from other states.
11 Reply- 10 mo
Also, even if they didn't all die of thirst, they would be a doomed state with no economy to speak of. They don't have the infostructure or resources to become independent. Between how often there are fires that burn through the state how little water they have in the state and the fact they won't have a functioning econemey would mean it's litteral suicide for the state.

Anonymous(18-24)10 moWhere would the rest of the country get their benefits and money from? There’s a reason it’s expensive here.
10 Reply1.3K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. That would be nice. Take tge east coast states and join Canada
12 Reply27.1K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Yes, if possible even disconnect it from the country and let it float out to sea.
11 Reply- 10 mo
You better pray to God. We don't decide to disconnect ourselves. We provide the vast majority of your fruits and vegetables. At least we used to until you started deporting all of our farm workers because they were all according to you. Illegal aliens who are doing nefarious things. The nefarious things consisted of supporting their families and working their butts off in agricultural fields. The kind of work that American citizens won't do.
Anonymous(18-24)10 moI don’t think so. There are a lot of reasons for it but mostly I don’t think any state could really successfully succeed from the US
10 Reply11.6K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. I live in California, and I certainly hope we secede. Enough is enough.
