In the 249 years that the United States of America has been in existence, staring in 1776 ...

Four (4) US Presidents were assassinated: Lincoln, Garfield, McKinley and Kennedy.

Of these, only Kennedy was a Democrat. The others were Republican.

In addition, fifteen (15) US Presidents had assassination attempts or known plots to assassinate them, eight (8) Republicans and seven (7) Democrats.

That means, of the 45 people who held the office of US President, 19 of them, 42% were victims of assassination or attempted assassination.

Do these numbers surprise you?

In contrast, only three (3) Presidents were impeached: Andrew Johnson, Clinton and Trump, and none of them were found guilty and removed from office.

Kennedy was not like a lot of democrats even for his time. He was absolutely nothing like modern democrats. He would be declared a fascist by modern liberals.
His unpopular stance during the Bay of Pigs was a show of strength and commitment to securing the USA that few other democrats have demonstrated as POTUS.
Obviously his most famous quote, “Ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country.” is completely antithetical to anything and everything modern democrats stand for.
If you read his entire inauguration speech, his words could easily be mistaken for Ronald Reagan’s. Their speeches are remarkably similar, actually. Both great men, great citizens and great patriots.

You could say that all the presidents assassinated in the last 120 years were Democrats and the script has been flipped. I'm not sure it means anything because the reasons for these assassinations seem murky and as each party scrambles to create a narrative to suit their cause, the truth ends up being lost. The Kennedy assassination has so many politically motivated conspiracies that whatever the truth might be, it will never be believed

You can't draw can't conclusions from 3 out of 4 until you include yourbsecond statistic, that's a Hell of a percentage. Would you work in a job where there's almost a 50% chance someone will try and kill you?

I think the problem lies in the American mindset rather than politics. You teach kids to get guns so they can be hero's and remote tyrants. Problem is it doesn't take much to convince people that any president is a tyrant.

Perhaps the real question is why is a nation obsessed with guns so bad at assassination? Seems a lot of trys not much success to me.

JFK was shot by the military industrial complex to put LBJ in office.

Finding any president guilty and impeached and jailed would set a dangerous precedent for politicians where they could be held accountable

It's not surprising. It's the wrong comparison. Impeachment is a political process. Assassination is a spiritual crime. The two are not in the same category. But Kennedy was definitely murdered by the government. So he was killed in house. Thats democrat as well. The relevant point is the assassinations for political reasons. MLK, JFK, RFK, now CK. @loveslongnails History shows it's practically impossible to remove a US President. He may be impeached by a simple majority of the House of Representatives, but a two-thirds majority of the Senate is required to find the President guilty and remove him from office. It's relatively easy to get a simple majority in the House but a two-thirds majority vote of the Senate on anything is virtually impossible, let alone impeachment.

Nixon would have been convicted, which is why he retired. Ford then pardoned him, which may or may not have been a mistake at the time.

Clinton's impeachment shouldn't have happened, it was the result of a political fishing expedition, but the country and world might have done better had he been convicted and Gore had had a year or two to prove himself. At least 500 votes worth in 2000.

Now, Trump knows he won't be impeached and convicted ever, and sees no limits to his power. He should have been convicted first time he was impeached, he definitely should have been the second time, and the DoJ should have gone after him immediately, not just his foot soldiers, when he wasn't.

Even with the delay in starting the criminal investigations, Trump would have been convicted in court if he hadn't had a pet judge and the majority of SCOTUS (three of whom should have recused, since he appointed them) delayed trials until it was too late.

When Lincoln presided over the nation, Republicans were progressive and Democrats were conservative.
There was a platform shift. Which is why it’s more important to identify by ideology rather than by party.
There are societal indicators that we are in the beginning of another platform shift. Politics is going to become very confusing for people and even more challenging to those who haven’t made the most of their educational opportunities, or were otherwise marginalized by a failing public education system.

@jimmy2 Trump WAS impeached... twice... the only President to ever be impeached more than once. In both cases, he was found not guilty in the Senate trial.

Many people are confused about the term impeachment. It's like an indictment. The person is charged, but nothing really happens until there's a trial. Article 2, Section 4 of the US Constitution defines the impeachment process: House files for impeachment (requires simple majority vote), Senate conducts the trial and then votes for removal or not (removal requires two-thirds majority vote).
