I say he did it out of love and concern for students whom are trapped in an environment that excludes some viewpoints. He could not do so inside the building, so he brought the viewpoints and challenges outside the building. The lack of thought and viewpoints is poison to the minds on some of these cities and campuses.
By doing what he did, he brought a different viewpoint and gave thought for some that may never have challenged what they hear in and around school.
It doesn't mean he's right about everything, that is in the view of the beholder. That's why he was at least open to discussions.
Many people don't realize the "mind junk" that became prevelant on campuses and is all throughout local school systems.
