How do you feel about private companies being able to hire and fire people based their political beliefs?

Eh I agree with both really that's annoying. Because I could hire whomever I wanted if it's my shop what's the government going to do force me to hire people based on what they want? Sounds bad.
But also it's bad to make people feel they need to be silent about their political stance anywhere because if a company they want to work for finds it they'll reject them.
This is a problem of two major freedoms that should exist clashing.

That’s not universally true. It’s going to depend upon the state and county you work in and, if applicable, the state and county the employer identifies as home office. The federal government doesn’t protect political affiliation, but some states do. If the law isn’t on the books, it’s on you to elect legislators that will change that in the best interests of the state and its citizens. That’s how a democratic republic works.

I love this. Politics is not a protected class. MAGA affiliation is a valid indicator of low IQ. MAGA affiliation is also a valid indicator of low social skills.

But if an ideologue causes conflict in the office by running their mouth, or if they sully the company's image by spouting their beliefs in front of clients, or spew hate on-line, the company has a right to fire them.

If you mean privately owned, as opposed to publicly traded companies, I think they should be allowed to hire and fire people for any reason they want.

If I start a company, I'll be damned if I'll let anyone else tell me who to hire. I'll shut down before I'll allow that.

America is a free country. If it a private company, then they can hire and fire anyone they want. In the public sector there should be no DEI allowed. People should be hired and promoted on merit alone.

No it isn't. You are assuming some minor loophole is broad and sweeping.

It is illegal under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 for employers to make job decisions based on race, color, national origin, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or gender identity.

Other federal laws prohibit discrimination based on age, disability, and genetic information. However, political views aren't covered by these laws and the laws of most states. This means employers are free to consider political views and affiliations in making job decisions.

If a state laws allow this in some instance. Keep in mind. Federal law overrides state law.
