African American hair?

So being a white woman who grow up in a majority white/Hispanic neighborhood I've wondered what Africa American hair feels like with that being said I'm not crazy/ stupid enough to randomly touch someone's hair. Also is it harder to properly care for it?

My girlfriend is black. She doesn’t wash hers like we do. She has weaves in her hair and she keeps it dry during showers. She conditions her scalp by “greasing” it with mostly coconut oil weekly. Her weaves last about a month at which time she takes the weaves out then washes and conditions her hair and brushes it all out. Then she goes to a braider and gets another weave job. The hair feels course to my touch but not off putting

Most of the ones here weren't born in Africa, they were born here so, they're just Americans.

@funkymonkee I get that but I don't want to be called a racist just cause I called them black Americans. I haven't gotten in to any fights with them yet and I'd like to keep it that way.

No one complains about being called, "black". And, if it's good enough for them, why wouldn't it be okay for us?
