A lot of this is cultural unfortunately, racist parents raising racist kids…even tolerating casual or tacit racism, gets passed on. I cannot fathom, in this day and age, groups of young white people throwing around the N-word, so unabashedly—but yet here they were, and did. Their parents did them a disservice. No, but not for the reasons you might think.

Donald Trump has been in politics for ten years, and a lot of these guys probably came from families that supported Trump. So for a good portion of their lives, they and their families have been called racists, sexists, fascists, Nazis... you get the idea, ever since then. They've seen how the "news" media has lied openly and shamelessly, they've been on social media and have seen those accusations thrown around, very likely have had their share of them directed their way as well, and have likely attempted debating the issues, only for "you dirty, rotten, ugly, stupid, incel fascist!" to be the extent of the conversation (which certainly has been the case with me; I was once called a "devil's advocating white supremacist @$$hole", despite the fact that I was defending a black man who accidentally hit and killed a girl who claimed to be non-binary with his car). So the thinking is "well boys, they're going to call us all this nasty stuff no matter what we do or say, or how we do or say it. Might as well have some fun with it!"

So they make these jokes and sarcastic comments in a private chat because there's no one there from the other side watching them (presumably), so they feel no particular need to watch what they say ("the thought police aren't here, so let's get based!"). And the fact that these private group texts were leaked at least lends itself to a suggestion that there was someone else in the group or organization that wanted to be the hero, so they had the messages leaked in order to embarrass and possibly even force a resignation.

Also worth noting, I even remember as far back as the George W. Bush days that Republicans and conservatives were being called such things. So basically, these accusations are NOTHING NEW. So... yeah, you'll forgive me if I don't exactly take the left's crashing out or their bloviating condescension about this seriously.
