Are speed bumps dangerous?

Question

I know they were meant to prevent people from speeding but what if someone isn't familiar with the road and they are hauling ass on their car and they hit a speed bump and lose control and run into someone else killing them as well? I get that for most people that know they are there that's good but speed bumps are sometimes hard to see and even less if you don't know the road lol

I think most traffic calming measures are distracting therefore dangerous. They should probably remove all that crap off the road, in my opinion. Trying to make sense of the wealth of information in front of you, all the stupid road markings, arbitrary bus lanes, all the other clutter.

They've put all these combined network of push bike and normal traffic lights in the UK, mixed them, and it is often confusing to see which relates to the car. If you're unfamiliar in the area or it is dark, it is hard to see which relates to which. I was driving on the motorway last evening and there was also the poor visibility due to the inclement weather and the fact that they're turned all of the street lights off on certain stretches. I could see fuck all and honestly it was dangerous, or more dangerous.

I'm not a fan of speedbumps. They damaged my bumper and I had to replace the thing at my expense. Of course, I could have wasted my time going to the council who would have said I was just going too fast (and I genuinely wasn't, I had specifically slowed down and was probably driving 5-10 mph). They make them too high or deeply unpleasant to go over at low speeds, such as these plastic ones, too. Whilst I'm complaining it annoys me how they're removing all the free car parking spaces in the city in the evening so I have to park in some obscure shithole carpark at 12am at night. To discourage car use no doubt. While there is no public transport at night and I'm not getting it anyway, given it is dangerous and I may be 'culturally enriched'. More unelected ideologues with no accountability and no heed to the deleterious and often dangerous effects of their policies. No doubt, the government and its agencies are a nuisance and a menace.

Well depends on the speed that is travelled over them, put it this way... at 20mph, can be a little jolt, at 30-35mph can be a slight jump, at 40-50mph can be a serious jump with the result of bumpers gone and slightly skids, here and there, anything after that you can loose the wheel and crash in any other parked cars, or if people near by, hit/squashed with the other cars, even seen them cars flipped, as they were double speed bumos and the driver miscalculated the center and was more of on to the other one, and just flipped like "in the movies", now also depends of the car, is is a sedan the impact will be greater, as if is a higher car such as 4x4 Suv the impact could be less but the jolt will increase because of the robustiness of the car.🤔🤷‍♂️

I remember once I was going fast and didn’t realize there was a speed bump and hit the bottom of my Honda. My car always leaked after that. I wasn’t able to get it fixed, but I always had to fill it up with a liquid after that. The sign was that it would start heating up and that’s how I knew I had to fill it up. I would stop, wait a bit, and then open the cap with a towel and add the liquid. I forget if it was the coolest or the oil though. Because I remember at some point is was both. 😅

People shouldn't be hauling ass while driving in the first place. Hence, speed bumps were implemented!
If someone is driving at a high rate of speed and hits a speed bump and loses control of the car and kills someone, then they would be responsible for that person's death for driving at a high speed - which caused the car to go out of control and kill people.
The person would probably be up for reckless driving and manslaughter and do jail time.

On the campus where I work there is a speed bump near the bus stop. the college is in an urban setting and a lot of the local kids have Hondas and Toyotas that they have dropped and the chassis is maybe 2 inches off the ground. Sometimes the sparks fly when they go over the speed bump.

In my country they have a different form of road calming technique, they save money by not making speed bumps that annoy everyone. They create deep potholes all over the roads instead, which fill up with water and become invisible, especially for speeding motorists.
I think this is a much better way.
Though my country hasn't officially declared this being their policy.

In most cases where speed bumps are put the speed limit is already way down. If your as you put it hauling ass hit one & lose control it's all on you the driver.
