Tell me the truth about how the USA works?

In France, we have a very caricatured image of how the US works, particularly when it comes to immigration, etc.

For example, for the French

When the French talk about "American-style communitarianism", they imagine a country where each group (Blacks, Latinos, Asians, LGBTQ+, Muslims, etc.) lives in its own bubble, waves its identity like a flag and calculates its position between communities. Each group keeps its own references, schools, media, demands, etc.


So tell me how it really works.

We have traveled Europe substantially and Asia so can provide some perspective globally. The screen you look at daily and news filter is not accurate.

Easier to talk than type it all. USA is a debt and health trap that if you are wise and especially fortunate to be strong willed, you stay out of. Everything fueled by borrowing... now that's coming to a cyclical end, will be "interesting". Those with reserves passed on or earned, yes is still possible to make it well here with hard work, can protect their children so they are not sucked into the money making scheme and rise above the trap. Those unwise or unfortunate, which is many, become victims. It's all for the financial engine, which is a large part "disease treatment".

Socially, people are very mixed in areas where different colors and cultures mix on a daily basis. But people coagulate more around common interests and economic stratifications to some extent. You will see people mixed in churches and such and all religions in same area. Ukranians live near Russians and neighbors with Poles and Jews and... etc etc.. That's nyc. Other areas less so, but plenty. Yes, we still have churches unlike France. Even Japan has churches.

Black and African American... some do very well especially when solid parents or come from outside culturally. Those inside, especially AA but also some caucasians without resources in lower social areas, get stuck in the social and economic depravity of the culture, broken down from ages and they get torn up emotionally, poorly trained poorly equipped, takes long time to figure out how and why... and cycle repeats. It's a slow clog and many are lost.

That's my 5 francs worth of insight... 😹.

The political division is strong. People talk, but not well. Some learned to avoid such topics but still talk politics... for now. Ray Dalio has great writings on the social/economic cycle we are in... which usually leads to great trauma.

I suggest you sit back with a nice French wine and enjoy the "show", it should be a thriller!

That’s the problem with the mainstream media. They’re constantly producing fabrications typically meant to instill ignorance and incite overly emotional reactions.
There are lots of documentaries that expose the US and its people for how we function and interact. Frankly, i bet we’re much more like the french than you might expect. Though i’m only guessing. I’ve been through parts of french Canada, but never to Europe. Most people actually coexist much more harmoniously than you think. The LGBTQIA bubble was the first in my lifetime in which oppressed classes garnered acceptance and fairly swiftly started flaunting their lifestyle choices and demanding acceptance from normies. I’ve had lots of non-hetero friends over the years, and none of them were quite as “proud” as what you have likely observed on screens from afar. Besides that, nobody really went around screaming about their sociopolitical identity. Get a group of Americans together and, more often than not, they’ll connect over their commonalities rather than manufacture some reason to offend and be offended. I honestly don’t know most people’s religion or sexual orientation unless it becomes a topic of conversation. Rarely before 2010 did i know if someone identified as a gender other than their biology indicates, and never did i care. Again, unless it became a topic of conversation. Mostly people talk about sports, food, shopping, entertainment and general personal life experiences. Where we’re from, where we’ve been and where we’d like to go. What we do, what we’ve done and what we want to do. These things bring Americans together more often than they separate us. My limited interactions with international travelers and even more limited personal international travel experiences suggest that is true in most western countries.
We are the same, but different.

That's partially true. I'm not sure what you mean by "references". Schools, isn't very common, but they do exist, even though it's technically illegal. Neighborhoods too. Legally, they can't prevent someone from living in a certain neighborhood, but they can impose policies and attititudes to discourage them. But certain groups do tend to cluster together, this is simply human nature. Media, there's a Black Entertainment Netwark and Spanish language channels, and Al Jazeera, and Spanish radio stations, but that's about it.

Some schools I think have black only dorms (I'm not sure about this one), but minorities (except straight White people) having their own clubs isn't uncommon.

There are also certain jobs that specific races do, and non profits that exclusively help minorities.

In my high school, if you walked around, you would see the different races hanging out with their own kind.

It's human nature to group with your own kind and not want outsiders.

I remember though how Charlie Kirk was bitching about black only dorms, yet I guarantee you, if he could only live in a White one or a black one, he would chose the White one. But then he told a Mexican kid that diversity is bad😂

We know that in Western societies there are certain levels of diversity, the question is what model of society we want to manage this.

I do not believe there is an ideal solution, and we must take into account the history of each country, which leads to different solutions.

For example, for France, I think the ideal is assimilation, which was our old system. But that does not mean that what is valid for France will be valid for the USA, because they have different histories and geographies.

This is gonna be extremely controversial, but I would support reinstituting Jim Crowe and separate but equal. The only difference would be, people would be able to choose. Those who want to segregate can segregate, those who want to mix can mix.

It’s going to be very different based on the region or state you visit. Big cities there’s a lot of diversity and a lot of folks with different backgrounds living in the same neighborhoods. Then you have suburbs that can be a little diverse to very segregated, and more so with rural areas. The news makes things seem one way but when I walk around in real life (New York City area) It’s less dramatic. We have parades that celebrate the different groups of people all the time and those communities because people are proud to be American and also where their families may immigrated from.

Ask someone this question in Montana and it’s like a different country and a totally different response. That isn’t bad it’s just what makes our country interesting. FYI people of Montana I’ve met were nothing but nice. That was just a random State i picked.

If you really want to know what it’s like, I’d recommend visiting a few different destinations. Most people you run into are going to be nice and not the stereotypes you hear. I mean you may run into a Karen or someone stupid, but let’s be real, that is everywhere in the world. I’ve been to a few European countries and I would say I had a similar experience what i think you might experience. I found mostly nice people in Europe and a few not so nice…That’s just humanity period lol.

It's really simple. We hate immigrants because they make us look bad. They work hard 6 or 7 days a week for shitty pay, while we complain about how hard our lives are.

We pretend to embrace personal liberty but that only goes as far as it matches the government desires. Guns are the obvious example. All the killing justifies having large bureaucracies to investigate all the killings. We have an FBI, ICE, DHS and ATF as front line investigators. All compete with each other to pinch the killers. Lots of jobs for lazy white guys.

Drugs are another good example. We're a country of addicts. The government makes a halfhearted attempt to stop the producers. lol because they're the cause instead of the entrepreneurs that see a rich market that's hungry for their products.

The drug problem is just all of us medicating ourselves because there's no healthcare system. Those of us that have "good" jobs work insane hours with little downtime. Of course we drink and drug to forget.

Oh, anon because we don't debate with people that have different views. Violence is more efficient. Oh, back to guns.

Not like that. In the large cities there is a lot of diversity and people are generally tolerant. I expect that New York City is more diverse than Paris. But the rural US is more isolated than rural France, and the population is less educated and less willing to accept people different from themselves.

You have it in an nutshell with the emphasis on the Nut. During the Biden administration the country was fractured along race and sexual orientation. He gave certain groups special privileges over other groups. The animosity created divided the country even more.

That's your first mistake, thinking because the United States has "United" as the first word in our name that we are actually United. Yes we are United in matters of defense where we're attacked from an outside threat. But not only do we have tribalism as you pointed out. But that tribalism is viewed and reacted to very differently in different regions of the country. Yes we are a melting pot. And at the end of the day you will be accepted overall if you embody the ideals that built America. But without a doubt what tribe you belong to will make a difference with where you try to rise.

No not exactly like that.. The groups mix up and integrate more times than not, but there is a decent amount of segregation and peopleseparating intontheir own enclaves.. Unfortunately provocaters are trying to make issues between groups so that they can stoke division and gain control, and Unfortunately it has been working well for them.. The U. S is one of the most diverse nations and the least racist as well..

Ethnic pride is rather strong here, to the point where people don't really talk that much in America about rich vs. poor, people mostly focus on issues of ethnicity and to a lesser extent gender/sexual orientation. Gradually that is beginning to change as neighborhoods are becoming more integrated.
