After 43 days, the longest US Government shutdown has ended. Was anyone you know impacted?

My SNAP benefits were cut by half amd my mom's was almost cut completely.

no. I saw more people (double) going to pantry to get free "food"... a lot of it is not food, but it's advertised that way. now the free money flows again, they are back to buying whatever they bought before. A large part of that $ is wasted on non nutritious items, we can improve that, and improve our health.

people used to be able to feed themselves. my family had a huge garden, as did our grandparents. our country is really messed up. now we borrow money to provide, largely, poor quality processed "food" if not absolute junk and hazardous "food". it's awful. So many Americans, don't even know it... they were marketed and sold this junk as if it's healthy.

I recommend everyone save some seeds or buy and start learning to garden, create community gardens, plant fruit trees. Bend the arms of your govt to till they scream and allow you to plant them in public areas. Such food tastes better and is way more healthy. Otherwise, what we are doing is borrowing money to pay someone else to do work for us. Slavery. that's wrong. If people have time on their hands, they should do work, at minimum, to provide food for them and neighbors.

Some friends and family members have government jobs. A few had to work without pay while the rest were furloughed. For all of them, it was inconvenient, but not a hardship. Their bank accounts got a little lower, but now, with backpay, they'll be whole again.

The news mentioned that some personnel on bases in foreign countries would not be paid and should ask e. g. local German institutions for help. Which is quite surreal.

It didn’t pay much but what a big gift for the troops. Trump used other money from Research & Development to pay the bulk of it. But he helped. It was big news here. And in the end, Trump won this battle in Congress.

I’m not saying no one needs them, but yes there are plenty of worthless people playing the system. I know people in the military and that work in federal courts that were furloughed. Everyone did fine and will get back pay.
