Unless the protestants and Catholics can get along then i can't see it happening soon. Ironically the one thing that does unite them is an anti immigrant riot.
NI differs from the rest of the UK in that it's only accessible by plane or ferry. It may look a a sort hop from Scotland but it's not. Huge numbers cross the welsh/English border both ways each day but only a trickle comes from Ireland. Because you don't have so many duel nation lives and businesses it would be easier for them to separate but to survive they'd need to merge with Ireland.
But there's huge numbers of Irish in England, 75% of Liverpool has recently Irish ancestry, mostly Catholic, effectively making it an Irish city.
They went there in the famine. You can see the Irish in their faces.
Other than the stupid Church of England vs the Catholic Church bullshit. I honestly don't have a decent understanding of how / why the Brits came to occupy and cling to Northern Ireland. I don't know enough to understand the whole political, cultural, or wealth aspects of the conflict that drove the split 100 years ago and kept it going. Did the Irish themselves choose the split or did the Brits impose it or instigate it?
Is it really as simple as stupid fucking religion... AGAIN?
It should be part of the united Irish Republic. It is Ireland, damn it!
There is no religious hostility in the Republic, so why should the Orange Order continue their acrimony against Catholics in the north? They should unite as Irishmen.
It s stupid to have it as part of the UK but too much fighting will occur if we reunite.

Yeah. From what I've been hearing, their politics don't really seem to align with the rest of the UK
Now, at least in the recent past, the British army is the only thing that has kept the Protestants and the Catholics from murdering each other. This will happen again, and the British army will be needed again.
If they vote to leave the U. K. and join the Republic Of Ireland.
That is not my problem. I don't live there.
