Why is Northern Ireland so messed up?

I hear they are quite different from the rest of the nation. Stats show they are more racist, homophonic, discriminatory etc.

They even believe hitting women is like hitting a child.

I don't think I will ever visit Northern Ireland, they seem to live in ancient times.

You have to look back centuries. Edward I, the "Longshanks" used the Irish as infantry in the 13th Century. The gaelic people of what is now Great Britain and Ireland were forced north into Scotland, west into Wales and Cornwall and across the Irish Sea to Ireland by the Romans 2000 years ago. After William I united England following 1066 the only gaelic people initially under his rule were the Cornish.

Northern Ireland's problems can't be explained in 2000 characters.

Henry VIII was made king of Ireland after 500 years of problems starting with the Norman conquest in 1066 and consequent gaelic displacement by English Saxons forced to Ireland by the Norman nobles.

Irish independence since the 1920s saw most of the protestant population who wanted to stay British move north and most of the catholics who didn't move south. Currently religious differences have been used as the excuse but there's no way to explain the full reasons on here.

I'm from there and I can say a lot of what you say isn't a representation of the whole nation, rather a mere few groups in troubled areas.
I believe no woman should be hit unless it's in self defence and I feel like levels of homophobia and racism are no different to other places

I don't believe that's what we think at all. I believe everyone is different and every family is different. I was brought up in a pain free environment where discipline didn't involve violence.
