Worth looking at the vote break down to answer that question. Sinn fein won but with only 30% of the vote. The unionist vote is split over 3 parties and in total slightly higher. It's hard to see how you can unite Ireland with such little overall support.

In reality northern Irish democracy is just a religious head count dependent on birth rate and migration than actual policies.

Add the SDLP to Sinn Feinn's votes and the republicans come out ahead.
Well it's not just a religious head count but also an ethnic, political and cultural head count.
As for policies, most of the big stuff is decided in West minister. This is like local council stuff. Overall Sinn Feinn does have good policies that are for working class people and the reason they are so dominant in the North is because of grass root politics

What a lot of Americans don't know is sinn fein is a left wing party. There's been a large swing to the left recently across the uk and this could just be an extension of this. I doubt Ireland will unite until the older generations die out taking memories of the troubles to the grave.

Sinn fein is super socialist always was as are most of the Irish parties like finna gael and Finna Fáil both of whom came about when the orginial sinn Fein party split during the Irish civil war, as well as the Irish Labour Party. There's two Irish nationalist parties in Northern Ireland Sinn Fein and the SDLP (Social Democratic Labour party) and their policies mostly line up with one another though their call ideology by different names such as social Democrats vs Democratic socialists if you know your monty python.

You serious? I don't know the real figures, but difficult to believe that the majority of North Ireland's population will agree. I think that both main tendencies are far to stubborn and somehow terribly childish in their convictions. The key is to listen to each other and accept people may have different opinions and interests. Only people of good will on both sides can help. Whatever ultimately happens politically, I pray the result to be respect and peace for everyone.

Maybe, but while the UK would probably let them go, they'd make it VERY unpleasant. Here's hoping for peace and brotherhood, no matter how it all shakes out.

The British government does take a massive dump on the way out as they leave other countries, Ireland 100 years ago was an example but India, thd middle east, Egypt etc also. Ireland was still under the boot of the British government with tariffs and other economic restrictions right up until WW2 and Ireland joing the UN. The EU is a very powerful ally for Ireland to have, Northern Ireland depends on southern Ireland and the EU economically and most of the infrastructure in northern Ireland was funded by the EU.

Sinn Fein is winning in places they've never won in before in the east, in 4 years there will be another crop of young Irish Catholics hitting voting age and 4 years after that the same so in 8 years the entire political landscape will change.

I agree. The protestants are losing due to low fertility rate. Also, I think the UK’s decision to devolve powers to Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland has made separatism more likely rather than less. A lot of people in England wouldn’t mind seeing these other countries go, given they are heavily subsidized by England. So I expect sooner or later all or all but a small enclave of Northern Ireland will be reunited with the rest of Ireland.
