Oh dear, Trump has just insulted the Irish. He's told their prime minister Ireland takes advantage of America adding, "All of a sudden Ireland has our pharmaceutical companies, this beautiful island of five million people has got the entire US pharmaceutical industry in its grasps."

I think that's great because who controls your medical supplies has got you by the short and curlies. Me thinks it's blackmail time.

He's not wrong. The EU has been on Ireland's case as well because they offer very low corporation taxes, that's why you see a lot of companies with headquarters there. Ireland is not wrong for allowing this but Trump is also not wrong to be looking to address this. It's like paying someone $30 per window to clean the windows in your home every month when you can do it yourself $240 per month.

Pharmaceutical companies can charge 40 or 50 bucks a pill, would it be too much to ask if they at least do the manufacturing here where there is some quality control? i always thought most of our prescription drugs came from China who could care less about QC.

Good for Ireland. The company I once worked for (not a pharma company) opened an engineering office and factory in Ireland, thanks to favorable taxes, skilled workers, and lower wage rates, better than anywhere in the US.
