Why when the government find diamonds or oil in your backyard it's theirs, but when they find drugs it's yours?

The only thing ever found in our yard "out of the ordinary" has been contractors trash- such as electrical conduit cut-offs and box knockouts- buried under the little bit of top soil with which the contractor blessed us.

Weed is a "drug", a plant naturally occuring in the ground just like diamonds and oil. So why is the oil and stones the government's but the weed is yours and you get arrested?
