That would depend on what your needs are. Are you in a trade that requires you to own a pickup truck? Can you write off the lease as a business expense on your taxes? Then a truck may be a good idea.

If not then a pickup truck is absolute shit as personal transportation. They are huge, heavy, noisy, rough riding, fuel guzzling, primitive designs meant for hauling heavy bulky stuff. A nice midsize sedan or SUV on a unibody chassis may be a lot more comfortable and easy to live with.

Hey, if you have cash to burn and you feel you need the newest and best hot new thing every 3 years, go for a lease / perpetual car payments. But they need to realize they are pissing money down the drain for their status symbol. But at least they won't have any repair costs for manufacturing defects.

Personally I love leases. I tend to try to find 3 year lease cars coming off lease and being sold as CPO (certified pre owned) by the car brand with an extended warranty and very low mileage. I bought 2 in 2023. Same brand. Both had about 25,000 miles, were 2020 model year, spotless inside and out, loaded, 28.5% less than a new one, and a powertrain warranty extended to 7 years 100,000 miles.

I financed both of them initially. That gives the dealership a vig on the loans and allows them to negotiate a better deal with the customer. The dealership finance guy was up front about the agreement with the bank. Some of them will not be that transparent with a retail customer. I think I had to leave the loan in place for 3-4 months and the dealer gets their slice of the loan deal from the bank. So I let left the loans in place for a few months then paid them both off. The bank made a few hundred in interest off me and probably gave more than that to the dealer. I plan to run both cars into the ground for 15 years or so.
