After losing the first and second Test by 8 wickets, perhaps losing the third by only 82 runs was an improvement and it won't be a 5-0 series washout.

I asked a depressed Englishman the day before and he assured me it was.

But I doubt it still affects the immigration rate from England to Australia as it once did.

Cricket is a slow game - how many other sports have matches that go for 5 days - but it has very intense dramatic moments. A single over can turn a match.

It is culturally important, Instead of having a revolution as you guys did we told them to send their best team out and we won.

So they had to admit we were better then them and had independence.

We get to do it again every two years.

Neither did I. Nor that the T20 variation is in the 2028 Los Angles Olympics after a mere 128 year absence. :)

The longest match lasted 12 days and only finished because England's players had to catch the boat home from South Africa. After that a 5 day limit was put in place. T20 is a mere 20 overs (120 balls) and more of a big bash game.

Very technically, it is up for grabs every 2 years. I sometimes think it is a Whitehall strategy to keep the Commonwealth alive and relevant by having England lose cricket series. Clever.

Ever since 1877 we have been immensely enjoying beating England. Indeed Australian national identity was forged on the cricket field by beating England back then.
