Well, for one reason, the sanctuary cities have laws against police collaborating with ICE. Police are sworn to follow the law, and if they don't, they get fired and sometimes worse. Police is certainly allowed to arrest illegal immigrants if they commit crimes, just like they can arrest anybody else that commits a crime. Unfortunately, they can't arrest racist trash like you that believes that anybody without a white skin is a criminal.

Even though democrat mayors might not want the local cops to co operate with ICE agents and even might make up some law forbidding it, the bottom line is that Federal law superseded local ordinances and it is not illegal for anyone to assist ICE or any federal agents in performing their duties.

So that means that they are not compelled to cooperate with the police and in fact can refuse to do so. All that is being asked in sanctuary cities is that they not cooperate. I agree that they should not interfere, but I also think they should not cooperate because to cooperate is to break the laws of the city.
