No. The two main languages are Spanish and Portuguese. But the majority of people are of indigenous descent. However, due to colonization, slavery and immigration, there are lots of blacks and people from various European and Asian countries. As a result, many people are of mixed ancestry.
Those people who trace their lineage to the original Spanish colonizers call themselves Castilian.

Of course not. Brazil was founded by the Portuguese and that is the official language there. About 1/2 of the population of South America are Brazilians with the other half being Spanish-speaking...

ALTHOUGH, in Paraguay, the most spoken language is not Spanish nor Portuguese, but Guarani which is an indigenous South American language spoken by the Guarani people. Paraguayan Guarani and Spanish are the official languages of Paraguay. Guarani is also the name of the currency of Paraguay.

No, but there are Spanish people who emigrated to South America several generations ago, looking for a better future. It's not uncommon to find people in South America whose grandparents and great grandparents were born in Spain. There is a mix of native people too, more pronounced in specific countries.

There were people, great civilizations (for the time; I think they still had slaves, human sacrifices, etc.), in South (and North) America before they were invaded, and a pope split the southern continent between Portugal and Spain.

The same reason most people in Middle America are English. It was the country that invaded and colonised the place. Thus killing off most of the locals.

No. Brazilians are Portuguese. Some places are English Dutch and French as well.

I think most of them are actually Portuguese and speak that language. Some countries do speak Spanish in South America but it’s mostly Portuguese.

Portuguese is only spoken in Brazil. But it is the largest country in South America. All in all, Spanish is more common than Portuguese, if you add all countries up.
