Opposing means accepting that you don't get Greenland... their wealth to pay your debts and any protections the nuclear shield would provide should it be built. if you get into "it" with Russia, you and your offspring will have to slug it out.

As every option has risks, alienating your allies also has risks.

Socialism has it's powers and Greelanders are happy as they are, and can't blame them for not wanting to take the risk to be USA... when they have what they want... and don't want your debt.

A NATO country has never been attacked, except USA.

The only time NATO has had to help anyone, was helping USA with the failing invasion of Aghanistan. Which may or may not have been justified but was ultimately done to seize Oil.

Now. USA represents about one third of Nato's strength. NATO has roughly 1 billion people. USA had roughly 350 million of that.

So the argument is that by... Fighting your 6-7 friends and isolating yourself against the hypothetical 26 plus guys on the other side you are somehow safer.

US people. Do you see how silly this is? Trump continues to act like a Russian asset. Like he always has. This is the dumbest thing you can do for your own security. Starting beef with your own (and stronger than you) allies. Over the security of a region you have historically hsd up to 11 military bases in but now decided one is more than enough.

Greenland is not worth nearly as much. What it has is some rare minerals that can reduce dependency on China. Denmark could be asked to mine them. Any number of economic ideas could be used. But attack your biggest military and trade ally will not help. Without the rest of NATO to trade with USA will go from in trouble to collapse.

It is why, while Venezuela was attacked for all the wrong reasons, it is more forgivable. And the shield of NATO prevents anyone not NATO from meddling.

As for Trump being a Russian asset. It tracks with the support he got financially in the past. Every choice he has made also has been to Russia's benefit.

Cyprus was invaded after the 1974 coup that supported enosis. As for the Valdai attack it matches the pattern of every US backed attack on Russia. Trump showing slightly more restraint than Biden on a few issues doesn't change the direction of the foreign policy establishment

@Hussar Trump has denied any involvement. It matching a pattern according to, yourself, is not evidence of some attempted assassination. Trump has also not issued a single package for Ukraine and has withdrawn tactical support. The only US package PURL or alike was only US in name. It was bought and paid for, at increased market price, by EU and then handed over. USA were allowed to keep their name on it to maintain at least some appearance of what side they are on.

Cyprus was, once again, not in NATO. NATO countries have attacked non-NATO countries. No one is saying we have not. But the only NATO country to ever be attacked is USA. And calling an act of terrorism a war level attack is stretching the truth.

First of all, Drumpf has done nothing but run his mouth. That’s not “hardball” by any measure. You would only believe otherwise if you’re one of those pansies who thinks words are violence.
Second, the US already has military base in Greenland. The problem was that there was no other military presence in Greenland. The elimination of that base would indeed have dire implications on our national defense. So it’s definitely in our best interests to defend it. Keenly, Drumpf managed to install a military presence in Greenland by doing nothing more than running his mouth. Genius move.
Additionally, if the goal actually is to take control of Greenland, it’s 100% about controlling the mineral rights. We don’t need to “own” Greenland to justify a military presence for protecting the base.
Furthermore, it’s pretty silly to suggest that Greenlanders already have what they want. They petitioned for independence years ago. It’s highly unlikely that they did that just for sh*ts and giggles. They don’t generally want to be ruled by anyone. Independent opinions vary from complete contentment with Denmark, to a strong desire for independence and yes even some would be happy to become “American”.
I’ll believe Drumpf wants to take over Greenland when he actually DOES something to prove it. At which point i will decide whether or not i approve based upon what he’s doing, how and ultimately how Greenlanders respond en masse.
I was completely opposed to the operation in Venezuela until i learned that the people of that country were celebrating the toppling of a brutal dictator. The vast majority of people have already made up their minds before they have all the applicable information. That’s nothing short of willful ignorance. Reporters from multiple organizations as well as independents have gone to Greenland and interviewed people to find out what they think and feel about their current situation and possible changes to it. Some Greenlanders want to become part of the US. Doubt it all you like, but the questions are being asked and answered. There’s literally no need to guess unless you’re afraid of facts shattering your misconceptions.

President Trump's reasoning for acquiring Greenland and Venezuela is valid. It's only the beginning. It's time to live up to our stereotype as Imperialists. Atatürk had it right. It's time to go to empire. Subdue Greenland, maintain order and improve their life quality.

Also listen carefully to Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta. They want statehood. We would not need to take them by force. They will run to us with open arms.

If NATO won't cooperate. It is time to withdraw from it and move our military assets to east Asia and to our friends in eastern Europe and leave NATO members to Putin. They need the industrial capacity.

Withdraw from and expel the UN. Convert their buildings into assisted care for military combat veterans.

Build a military force of Cuban Americans and "Normandy" Cuba. Remove the Communist regime and let the Cubans rebuild. Ally them with Puerto Rico.

Militarize (even more) South Korea, Japan and Philippines and prepare them for war with China.

I like Trump, and honestly I think he's taking precautions, readying himself, and even indicating the next world war isn't far off. That's the only reason I can think of him being so aggressive towards Greenland. Because other than their rare minerals, which are key components for mobile phones, computers, batteries, the only other benefit (that we know of) is their military strategic location. It's a crucial location for the defense of all of North America. And with America's military budget, they'd most certainly make the most use of it to defend us (I'm saying this as a Canadian). But I do think he's escalating tensions due to his statement, maybe a bit too fast. He has too many haters who oppose him just because he's Trump.

Trump responded with “nothing is off the table”. First off if you want if you want Denmark to sit down and talk you tell them there is a chance you will just take Greenland. The other countries don't really have a history of fair trade and international law with shipping lanes. Denmark can't really do anything with the territory and will be unable to defend the area in the future.

I also think Denmark would be better off to take a deal. Why just let it sit there and not really utilize the territory to its potential? I think it would benefit Denmark to take the deal.

Haven't really heard Denmarks reasons for hanging on to the territory other than some politicians simply saying it's mine and you can't have it, like a child.

There's agreement in place for USA to station all the military they want, with discussion. we once had 18 bases and thousands, we've only had one base with a few hundred.
