Why do people put one down?

Well, that's her hang-up, not yours.
I worked in a print shop for 11 years. I had SOME prior experience but, learned fast, which was part of why they kept me on as a temp and eventually decided to hire me but, I was never exactly a pro at it but, over those 11 years, there were at least 40 employees and at least 5 of them there hated me for NO reason AT ALL!! In some cases, I didn't even know it for a few years!!
One day, we got two new hires and I was introduced to them, the guy had no problem saying hello to me and shaking my hand (every so often, he might get a bit snotty with me but we still got on well), the girl ignored the piss out of me and never said a fucking word to me the entire 8 or 9 years that she was there except to thank me for picking up something she dropped, one time!! I have NO IDEA what kind of bug she had up her cunt about me, she never said and I never asked!!
Another new guy started out friendly and it was actually up to me to teach him the ropes the first couple days and then, suddenly, he turned into a fucking asshole!! A grown man with a wife and teenaged kids treating me the way bullies in grade school used to 30 years earlier!! And I did NOTHING to warrant this treatment!!
Our delivery guy died so, they hired a new guy and, for some reason, he refused to have ANYTHING to do with me the whole time he was there!! WE NEVER EVEN MET EACH OTHER!! Eventually, he had to quit because he found out he had cancer. Even though we were, basically, enemies, even though I never knew why, once I found out he had cancer, I gave him a list of the various things that I know of that'd cure cancer!! I think he thanked me and that was the ONLY thing he ever said to me and I never saw him again!!
Another guy that was there long before I started eventually got a bug up HIS ass about me after nearly a decade and started making fun of me like a 12 year old!! I hardly had ANYTHING to do with this guy the whole time I was there!! I worked in one half of the room, he worked in the other half and we almost never had to deal with each other.
And, like you, during most of my school years, I was ALWAYS the one that people chose to pick on for NO REASON I can think of other than maybe because I stood out because I was taller than everybody else. It just now occurred to me that, maybe BECAUSE I was taller, they figured I had to repeat a few grades and was, therefore, dumber than them?

Most of my life!! It started shortly after I started going to school. After 3rd grade, I begged my parents to switch me to another school. In 4th grade, I went to a new school sand it started up all over again, there!! apparently, everyone but me is allowed to be themselves!! Everyone scrutinizes EVERYTHING I say or do so they can find things to make fun of me over! Thankfully, except for in a couple jobs, most of that stopped after high school!!
In one class I took the room was always cold so, I'd sit on my hands (at my sides, not my crotch) to keep them warm and people suggested I was playing with myself!!
In high school, there was a Chinese kid that was a thalidomide baby (there was a vaccine some pregnant women were given in the `40's and `50's that caused their babies to be deformed), his right arm was slightly backwards and never grew bigger than it was when he was a baby but I never made fun of him for that, however, he had no problem making fun of anybody else (including me!) for any reason he chose!!

Bullies are losers and usually are people who are unhappy themself.
Happy and successful people with great lives wouldn’t go around intentionally trying to make others feel bad.
